About the role
Overview:
**Job Title:**Production Artist
Department: Creative Operations
Reports to: Manager, Production Art
**Status:**Regular Full Time
**Location:**22 Adelaide Street West, Toronto

The Production Artist is responsible for ensuring that all assigned builds move efficiently through all established stages of production while adhering to target dates. This position works closely with Art, Editorial and Marketing in the creation of covers, advertisements and promotional materials utilizing the design elements from the covers created by Art. This position will assist in moving files through all production stages to final approvals and creates all required decorating plates and pre-flights the final, press-ready files. This position requires the ability to track and maintain focus while sharing detailed information between multiple groups.
Responsibilities:
-Cover Mechanical Production and Cover Pre-Press/Pre-Flight

- Maintain all assigned cover templates ensuring these meet departmental and printer requirements as per best practice (SOPs);
- Ensure all format versions are up-to-date and reflect the current approved “look” and branding elements as per best practice (SOPs);
- Support internal, proprietary workflows, work within internal systems in helping to ensure the proper tracking of assigned covers through all stages of production;
- Ensure cover files are updated and approved by all departments prior to deadlines and follow-up on any covers that are delayed;
- Build both print and digital cover materials in Adobe Creative Suite ensuring that the final delivery of the press ready files follow departmental best practice (SOPs).

- Editing of supplied artwork, ensuring their accuracy for reproduction as per design, communicate any issues that impact the look directly with Art;
- Create all decorating elements as per Art’s direction while communicating any issues and/or changes required directly with both Art and Production to ensure quoted print material remains within budget;
- Interact with multiple departments as needed and in a timely manner to ensure assigned materials meet specified deadlines;
- Create advertisements for Marketing utilizing design elements from the covers created by Art and manage communication and approvals on an ongoing basis. -Product Maintenance

- Organize and archive all completed materials following departmental best practices and naming conventions (SOPs).
Qualifications:
- 3+ years graphic production experience; publishing an asset but not necessary
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent in Graphic Arts
- Advanced MAC technical abilities and file building techniques in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Clear multi-departmental communication with a customer-first attitude
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
- Advanced pre-flight, analytical and problem-solving skills Adobe Creative Suite
- Advanced knowledge of typography, design layout, color work and print processes
- Ability to multi-task while working independently and as a team player
- Adaptable/flexible to changing business processes and requirements
- This position requires extended periods of focus working in front of a computer with multiple screens. This position also requires some periods of standing and the ability to handle and cut proofs from a large format printer.

The salary for this position is $55,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
