About the role
Overview
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is a frontline healthcare professional who works collaboratively within an interprofessional team to provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients with chronic and acute cardiopulmonary conditions.
The Respiratory Therapist in the Long-Term Ventilation (LTV) Unit is responsible for the assessment, treatment, monitoring, and ongoing management of chronically ventilated patients. This role supports evidence-based respiratory care, promotes patient and family education, ensures the safe operation of respiratory equipment, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives across the department.
The Respiratory Therapy Department maintains an affiliation with The Michener Institute and provides clinical education and supervision for Respiratory Therapy students.
This position requires the successful candidate to work rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, statutory holidays, and on-call shifts as required to meet the operational needs of the department.
M ay be required to work in other units within the Hospital to provide staffing coverage as operational needs require.
EDUCATION
Current registration and good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO). Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certificate Program for Respiratory Therapist working with Long Term Ventilation preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is considered an asset.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience preferred Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills. Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Commitment to patient- and family-centred care. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare information systems.
