About the role
Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week (7 hours per day) with additional rotational shifts that include early shifts starting at 7:30 AM or late shifts ending at 6:00 PM to support before- and after-camp programming) Hourly rate: $18

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. At AGO Art Camp, we believe in fostering creativity and imagination in young artists. As part of the renowned Art Gallery of Ontario, we provide a unique and enriching experience for campers to explore their artistic talents while enjoying the fun of summer camp and we need great people to help us accomplish this!
We are currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time, AGO Art Camp Counsellor to join our Education & Programming team for the AGO’s Summer Art Camp. Under the direction of the Manager, Camp, Courses and Studio Programming , the incumbent will be responsible for the daily supervision of AGO Art Camp campers. They will develop activity plans for small and large groups during this nine week long camp series in collaboration with the Senior Camp Staff. They will lead groups of children ages 5-13 in recreational activities and assist the Children and Youth Studio Instructors during the studio art instruction portion of the daily camp program. The Camp Counsellor will provide excellent front line customer service, liaising with parents/guardians, campers, AGO staff, volunteers, and patrons of the gallery. They will mentor volunteers throughout the summer, demonstrating best practices in behavioural management, customer service, program, planning and delivery, and health and safety awareness.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program in visual arts, education, physical education, health, recreation or other appropriate areas of study (or within 24 months of graduation).
- Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C is required before start of employment.
- Experience supervising groups of children (aged 5-13) in an indoor/outdoor camp and/or educational environment
- Experience in developing and leading activities for groups of children (aged 5-13) in an indoor/outdoor camp and/or educational environment
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent problem solving and team-building skills
- Enjoys working with children
- Strong interest in the visual arts
