About the role
About the Role
Our heavy industrial client is seeking a strategic and results-driven Category Manager to lead sourcing and procurement initiatives across Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) categories. This role is responsible for developing purchasing strategies that reduce total cost of ownership, mitigate supply chain risk, and maximize value across multiple operating subsidiaries.
Reporting to the VP of Supply Chain you will partner closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and leadership to implement best-in-class procurement practices, supplier programs, and reporting systems while driving continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Lead strategic oversight of sourcing and procurement for MRO spend categories.
- Analyze inventory and recommend SKU rationalization within maintenance stores.
- Conduct global supplier sourcing initiatives to achieve best value outcomes.
- Prepare RFQs/RFPs and negotiate supplier contracts and commercial terms.
- Perform in-depth market and category analysis to inform sourcing strategies.
Systems & Reporting
- Serve as a key contributor in the design and implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Develop and manage purchasing and category reporting within the EAM/CMMS environment.
- Produce monthly performance and compliance reporting related to MRO categories.
Supplier Management & Programs
- Develop and manage preferred supplier programs across the organization.
- Communicate program standards and coach subsidiaries on adoption and execution.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate quarterly business reviews with tiered suppliers.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.
- Master’s degree considered an asset.
Experience
- 5–10 years of MRO purchasing or category management experience.
- Experience within industrial, manufacturing, or similar environments preferred.
- Proven experience sourcing MRO products globally.
Certifications (Preferred)
- SCMP, ISM, PMAC, or equivalent professional designation.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of supply chain and procurement best practices.
- Project management capability with strong prioritization skills.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance or ERP systems.
