The Communications Specialist is a member of the Corporate Communications and Media Relations team. This role reports to the Head of Communications and works closely with other key internal stakeholder groups including the Marketing team, Government Relations and Public Policy teams, Leadership team, Standard Forms team, CEO’s office, and Member Engagement.
Job Description:
We are looking for a Communications Specialist with a passion for writing, editing, storytelling, and team work to join our team on a temporary basis (18-month contract) to cover parental leave.
Working closely with the Head of Communications, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, review, and execution of a variety of internal and external communications products for senior leaders and varied audiences, including speaking remarks, emails, presentations, messaging documents, reports, and more.
The Communications Specialist has a keen eye for detail, ensuring tonal and messaging alignment are always considered when drafting/reviewing materials, and communications standards are continually followed.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead the execution and delivery of important OREA stakeholder communications, including developing, reviewing, and assisting with delivery of OREA Board of Director communications, Member Board communications, all Member emails, key staff communications and other assigned projects, ensuring all brand standards are met.
- Develop remarks for OREA leaders, including the Board of Directors, for a variety of different audiences/events. This includes working closely with OREA leaders to develop their voice and tone and assist them in preparing to deliver remarks (i.e., coaching, guidance, etc.).
- Work to identify communications opportunities that enhance the REALTOR® reputation, raise OREA’s profile, and support the Association’s strategic plan.
- Ensure communications standards are met across the organization.
- Ensure the measurement and evaluation of communications programs and deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the delivery of OREA’s communications.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or Communications, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience in researching, writing and editing
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
- Minimum of 4-5 years of professional writing and communications experience, including messaging and narrative development
- Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and proven ability to balance competing demands in a dynamic environment
- A positive attitude with a focus on being a team player
- High standards for accuracy, responsiveness, integrity, and discretion
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, when required
- Previous Association experience is an asset
