Role Summary
The Lab Project Manager will lead the end-to-end planning, construction, and commissioning of a new laboratory focused on testing inhalation devices, including vape products containing nicotine and cannabis. This role requires coordination across internal teams and external partners to deliver a compliant, fully operational, and high-quality lab facility.
Role Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Documentation
- Maintain and manage all electronic record-keeping for the project, including permits, regulatory submissions, site details, drawings, and plans
- Ensure all documentation aligns with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., health, safety, and controlled substances handling where applicable)
- Track project milestones, risks, and deliverables using project management tools
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main point of contact internally, ensuring all key communications and decisions are routed and followed up with the appropriate stakeholders
- Serve as the primary liaison for external third-party contractors, including designers, engineers, landlord, general contractor, trades, and service providers
- Build strong working relationships with regulatory consultants, equipment vendors, and certification bodies
Project Execution & Oversight
- Develop and manage the project plan, budget, and timeline from concept through commissioning
- Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations
- Identify and mitigate risks, resolving issues that may impact timelines or budget
Communication & Reporting
- Provide ongoing project status updates through meetings and electronic communications
- Coordinate internal and external schedules to ensure consistent and effective communication
- Prepare executive-level reports on progress, risks, and financial status
Laboratory Setup & Equipment Management
- In collaboration with Chemistry and Product teams, coordinate equipment and instrument selection, procurement, transport, and installation
- Oversee vendor selection and ensure equipment meets technical and regulatory requirements
- Ensure proper installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) where applicable
- Ensure service contracts and maintenance agreements are in place for all new equipment
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure the facility meets all applicable regulatory requirements for handling nicotine and cannabis products
- Coordinate inspections, certifications, and approvals (e.g., safety, ventilation, hazardous materials handling)
- Implement and oversee compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) or similar standards if required
Operational Readiness
- Develop SOPs related to facility operations in collaboration with technical teams
- Ensure readiness for day-one operations, including utilities, safety systems, and workflow optimization
Requirements
Formal Education or Equivalent
- Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related), OR Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biology), OR Construction Management / Project Management)
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent is strongly preferred
Years of Experience
- 5–10+ years of project management experience, preferably

- Laboratory construction or fit-outs
- Pharmaceutical, biotech, cannabis, or regulated environments
- Industrial or technical facility builds
- Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder construction projects from concept to completion
- Experience working with laboratory equipment procurement and installation
