The BC Principals' & Vice‐Principals' Association (BCPVPA) is seeking an Executive Director to join our organization.

Position:**** Full-Time, Continuing
Salary: Effective July 1, 2026, the salary for this position will be $209,209.00
The BCPVPA is a not-for-profit association that advocates for its members and promotes excellence in leadership for 2,700 school-based and district Principals and Vice-Principals in British Columbia's K-12 public school system. The BCPVPA represents our membership in regard to issues of importance within the public education sector; designs and delivers professional learning and leadership development programs; and represents and supports the employment relationship interests and welfare of its members.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and leading the work of our Senior and Support Staff, the Executive Director has an outstanding record of leadership in the public education sector and possesses a detailed knowledge of the K-12 system in British Columbia. Candidates require a successful history of working with elected Boards and developing and implementing a Board's strategic vision, along with experience in human resource management, and in developing and managing budgets. The Executive Director supports the work of the Board of Directors, provides strategic guidance in governance as well as partner and government relations, and manages the daily operations of the Association and staff.

Qualifications****andExperience:
The BCPVPA's next Executive Director requires:
- successful experience as a school and/or district leader in the BC public school system, or equivalent
- a master's degree, doctorate, or equivalent
- experience working with an elected Board
- knowledge of the BC School Act, the roles and responsibilities of Principals and Vice-Principals, and the BC public education system
- demonstrated success in fostering and managing positive working relationships with government agencies and partner groups
- knowledge and experience in project conception and management; development and implementation of policy; allocation of resources; and strategic planning and budgeting processes
- exceptional written and oral communication skills
- a commitment to developing and modeling awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, reconciliation, decolonization, and inclusion
Responsibilitiesof****the****Role:
The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Association to execute the strategic vision and decisions of the Board. They work closely with the Association's President in a liaison role with government and partner groups. They also work closely with Ministry of Education and Child Care staff and with counterparts at organizations representing trustees, superintendents, business officials, and independent schools.
The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director are:
Leadership
- Develop an operational plan to execute the Association's strategic plan
- Act as a professional advisor on all aspects of the Association's activities
- Develop honest, transparent, and respectful relationships
- Model exemplary leadership to create and maintain a positive workplace culture that is effective, respectful, and inclusive
- Build capacity of a high performing, innovative, and collaborative management team
- Demonstrate commitment to furthering the goals of the BCPVPA's Strategic Plan
Operations
- Execute the Strategic Plan and decisions of the Board
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and effectiveness of the Association's programs and services
- Collaboratively manage the Association's human resources, including recruitment, hiring, training, compensation, performance reviews, and orderly succession planning
- Manage the Association's and Board's exposure to risk
- Ensure that the Association is compliant with all applicable legislation and regulations (such as the Societies Act, Income Tax Act, Employment Standards Act and Personal Information Protection Act)
- Work with the Director of Finance to ensure the efficient and effective use of the Association's resources, coordinate the budget process, and produce financial statements for the Board
- Coordinate the services provided by external legal counsel to the Association
Relationshipswith****governmentand****partner****groups
- Build and sustain positive relationships with a range of external stakeholders
- Work effectively with the Executive Directors of education partner groups to promote common interests and objectives related to a thriving public education system that supports student success
- Work effectively with staff at the Ministry of Education and Child Care to promote alignment of Ministry initiatives and school leadership, and communicate and provide the Ministry with organizational perspectives
Supportfor****the****President
- Provide the President with strategic advice, information, and other support to enable the President to carry out their role effectively
- Support and advise the President in their role as spokesperson for the Association
- Assist the President in planning agendas for meetings of the Board, Chapter Council, and AGM
- Work with the President to build and maintain positive working relationships with the Ministry of Education and Child Care and education partners
Supportfor****the****Board of Directors
- Provide the Board with regular performance reporting against strategic objectives and indicators
- Provide support, advice, and recommendations to the Board on all internal and external matters affecting the Association
- Provide the Board with clear and comprehensive information, including background information and options, to support the Directors in their roles as decision-makers
- Keep the Board informed of all material operational and financial matters in a timely and effective manner;
- Draft organizational policies and procedures for Board approval, and review annually to make recommended changes as appropriate
- Develop and enhance the capacity of a Board to perform its governance responsibilities
- Provide in-service training for new Board members
- Provide support for standing, advisory, and ad hoc committees

Location:
This position is primarily based at the BC Principals' & Vice-Principals' Association office in Vancouver, BC. The ability to travel within the province and within Canada is required. The Executive Director is expected to serve BCPVPA members, Board, and staff beyond the normal workday and workweek.
Salary****andBenefits:
Salary, benefits, and pension for this position will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience and demonstrated skills. The salary range will be within the parameters of similar association positions within the B.C. K-12 education sector.
