Summary of Opportunity
Join the HomeLearners Network (HLN), an exciting program of SelfDesign Learning Foundation.
HLN offers a collection of STEAM-based hands-on activities designed to ignite kids' passions, linking fingers to brains and fostering real-time connections. By engaging in our interactive platform, kids and their families can explore their interests while connecting with others in a supportive and fun environment.
We are seeking experienced, provincially certified, online educators to assist with the development and hosting of live-streamed, virtual educational activities.
As an online educator, you will be responsible for creating, designing and facilitating engaging, meaningful and fun live online activities for learners at the K-7 level. These live online activities are focused on learning and exploring new skills and interests. The goal is that activities supplement learners’ education, it is not academically driven. This contract opportunity is flexible. You can plan and offer single session activities, series, and camps. The number of activities and frequency of delivery are negotiated based on your availability and the needs of our learners.
All activities run between 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Pacific. We are looking for educators to join us as soon as possible.HLN’s online educators work collaboratively to develop topics for activities, focusing on a range of fun topics using Universal Design for Learning principles.
We are seeking educators with experience in the following specializations:
- Primary education, K-2 (cross curricular, foundational numeracy and literacy through exploration; social, emotional, and curiosity-driven learning).
- Social Studies (history, geography, current events).
- Languages (French or additional language instruction; conversational, immersive, or culturally-based approaches).
- Applied design, skills & technology, specifically:
● Graphic design and digital creativity
● Career exploration and real-world skills
● Entrepreneurship, business, and marketing
- STEAM, specifically:
● Math, numeracy, and financial literacy
● Engineering and design thinking
● Introductory/Advanced coding, programming
● Game design and development
● Robotics (entry to intermediate)
● Animation and digital creation

Work Environment:
We are a remote organization.
We operate during Pacific Time zone business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Outside of live online activities, you set your own hours of work, between the business hours noted above. You also need to be available for occasional online meetings during these same hours. Meetings are scheduled in advance.

Contract start date: As soon as possible.
Note: Contracts are issued from August 1 - July 31 each year with an opportunity to renew.

Contract Details
Oversight:
You will work at the direction of the Program Lead and Lead Guides.
Services Required:
● Create, design and facilitate live online learning activities for children and teens at the K-7 level.
● Create photo assets and short video clips of activity/products for each of the activities based on the requirements laid out by the HLN Team Lead.
- Manage live online activities in the HLN platform.

Experience and Credentials
- B.C. Teaching Certificate. Other provincial teaching certificates will be considered.
- 2+ years teaching, preferably with experience working in an online environment.
- Working with groups of learners in an online setting.
- Planning and creating engaging online lessons, sessions, workshops, etc.
- Designing curriculum and courses for in-person or online settings.
Mandatory Requirements:
If you are offered and accept this contract opportunity, you will need to:
Undergo a Criminal Record Check which must be obtained through SelfDesign with the BC Solicitor General’s office at your own expense (approximately $28) unless you are a B.C. Certified Teacher.
