About the role
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the assessment, rehabilitation, and improvement of building mechanical systems. Working closely with project managers and senior technical staff, this role combines field investigations with office-based analysis and reporting. The position offers opportunities to develop technical expertise and progress toward professional licensure and project management responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct site investigations and condition assessments for existing building mechanical systems.

Evaluate plumbing, piping, HVAC, ventilation, and mechanical infrastructure systems, and develop recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, and replacement under the guidance of senior team members.

Prepare proposals, technical reports, and supporting documentation related to mechanical system assessments and upgrades.

Support projects involving cooling strategies, boiler replacements, and other mechanical system improvements.

Work closely with other RDH teams, including building enclosure, construction management and energy and climate services, to support multidisciplinary retrofit projects, including deep energy retrofits.

Collaborate with clients, contractors, project managers, and senior technical staff to deliver projects and manage multiple priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

Minimum two years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on heating, cooling, ventilation and plumbing systems.

Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with EGBC or another Canadian provincial engineering association.

Experience with plumbing and piping systems is required.

Exposure to HVAC and ventilation systems, including heat pumps, heat recovery ventilators, and VRF systems, is considered an asset.

Exposure to existing buildings work is considered an asset
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of mechanical building systems, including plumbing, piping, HVAC, and ventilation systems.

Ability to conduct investigations, analyze findings, and prepare clear technical reports with support from senior staff as needed.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Interest in developing technical expertise and progressing toward professional licensure.
BENEFITS AND PERKS
The base salary range for this position is $68,000 - $89,000 annualized for a full-time role. Salary is dependent on various factors, including qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. You may also be eligible for discretionary incentives and share ownership.
