About the role
'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team in a combined role as Kindergarten to Grade 2/3 Literacy Teacher (.6) and Grade 2/3 (.4) Classroom Teacher. This position is ideal for someone who values holistic education and is committed to integrating Tsimshian Language and Culture into daily teaching practices.
Literacy (.6):
- Plan and deliver engaging literacy instruction across multiple grade levels
- Support students in developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
- Collaborate with staff to implement school-wide literacy initiatives
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth
Grade 2/3 Classroom (.4):
- Teach core subjects including science, social studies, and art
- Creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
Cultural Integration:
- Embed Tsimshian Language and Culture teachings into all aspects of the curriculum
- Collaborate with elders, cultural workers, and community members to enrich student learning
- participate in and lead cultural events and ceremonies as part of the school community
Qualifications
- BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience teaching Literacy and/or primary grades
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tsimshian language and culture practices
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation
