About the role
Our client, a leading provider of digital training and compliance education solutions, is seeking an experienced Head of Course Development & Operations to lead and scale their course development organization. Reporting directly to the SVP of Product, this role will play a critical part in overseeing the strategy, development, and operational execution of a large portfolio of digital learning products.
With thousands of courses supporting customers across multiple industries, this leader will be responsible for driving innovation, improving development processes, and ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality, compliant, and engaging learning experiences. Manage and mentor a leadership team overseeing multiple functional areas, including writing and editorial quality control, course development project management, quality assurance, digital content development, and learning operations. Establish departmental goals, KPIs, and operational standards aligned with organizational objectives. Oversee the full lifecycle of digital learning products, including course creation, updates, quality reviews, publishing, version control, and retirement processes. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency, scalability, and quality across a large portfolio of digital courses. Develop and implement AI-enabled workflows to improve content creation, quality assurance, media production, assessment development, and operational processes. Partner closely with Product, Technology, Compliance, Customer Success, and other business stakeholders to align course development priorities with company goals. Ensure learning content meets regulatory, compliance, accessibility, and quality standards. Support ongoing updates to course content based on regulatory changes, industry requirements, and evolving customer needs. Evaluate and implement modern learning technologies, authoring platforms, and automation tools to improve learner experiences. Manage vendor relationships and external development partners as required. Provide executive-level reporting on production metrics, operational performance, strategic initiatives, and opportunities for improvement. Build a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, eLearning, digital education, or course development. 5+ years of experience leading and scaling large, cross-functional teams within a learning, content, or technology-focused environment. Proven experience managing and scaling a course development organization or similar function responsible for high-volume digital content production. Direct experience developing and managing online training courses from concept through delivery. Strong understanding of instructional design principles, digital learning strategies, and content development best practices. Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and automation to improve course development workflows and operational efficiency. Experience working with regulated training environments, compliance-focused education, or industries with frequent regulatory updates is strongly preferred. Strong technical knowledge of learning technologies, including LMS/LCMS platforms, course authoring tools, and eLearning standards such as SCORM, xAPI, and AICC. Experience with tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, iSpring, HeyGen, or similar learning technologies. Strong understanding of content governance, publishing workflows, and digital media production. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and communicate effectively at an executive level. Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire teams, drive change, and build strong cross-functional relationships. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, or related field is preferred. PMP, CPTD, ATD, or similar certifications are considered an asset.
