Role Description The G1/Combustion Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Waterloo, ON. This role focuses on installing, commissioning, inspecting, and maintaining combustion and gas-fired equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing system issues, performing corrective and preventive maintenance, conducting combustion analysis and tuning, and completing required documentation such as work orders and inspection reports. The technician will interpret technical drawings and specifications, adhere to all applicable codes and regulations, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to support integrated electrical and mechanical projects. This role also involves interacting with clients on-site, providing clear updates on work performed, and supporting Smith and Long’s commitment to rapid, high-quality service. Qualifications Technical proficiency in combustion systems, gas-fired equipment, and related mechanical components, including experience with installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations for gas and combustion equipment, with a commitment to safe work practices and risk control. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals, and to use diagnostic tools and test instruments for system analysis. Effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and optimize system performance. Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting work, preparing reports, and interacting with clients and team members in a professional manner. Capacity to work on-site in varying conditions, manage time and priorities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced service environment. Valid G1 Gas Technician license (or equivalent) and a clean, valid driver’s license suitable for travel to customer sites. Previous experience in commercial or industrial building systems, HVAC/R, or mechanical services is an asset
