About the role
POSITION SUMMARY The School Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students to and from the ʔaq̓amnik̓ School, ensuring a safe environment for students at all times. This important role ensures proper maintenance of the school bus and takes any required actions to ensure it is in good working order.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate school bus, transporting children to and from school and on field trips.
- Perform basic mechanical inspections; determine required maintenance, and complete repairs/arrange for repairs with mechanical facility.
- Perform safety check of vehicle prior to each trip.
- Complete required tasks to ensure safe and continuous bus operation, including cleaning interior and exterior and refueling.
- Informs students of safety rules and supervises/enforces rules during trips. The successful candidate holds completion of specialized bus driver training. Valid Class 2 driver’s license with air brake endorsement as well as possession of a clean drivers abstract. Completion of and possession of valid CPR and First Aid certificate. Experience in the transportation industry is an asset. Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check clearance required.
Hourly wage starting at $25 per hour and will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan. Shifts are typically 7:00 – 9:00 am and 2:30 – 4:30 pm on school days for an average of 4 hours per day/20 hours per week. There is opportunity for additional hours for field trip coverage as well.
