What You Will Get To Do
The successful candidate will have a positive impact on our corporate culture by demonstrating the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) through daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials.
By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.
For approximately eight (8) months of the year, the position reports to the Supervisor of Operations (Parks), and is under the daily direction of the Working Foreperson(s).
The Labourer (Parks) is responsible for:
- assisting the Horticulture/Turf workgroup with annual flower bed preparation and ongoing maintenance such as fertilizing, watering, weeding and/or removals;
- preforming general duties within the Forestry workgroup such as planting, pruning, chipping, watering, mulching and/or removals;
- assisting the General Maintenance workgroup with repairs/maintenance of various park facilities/structures, garbage collection as well as preparation and clean-up for special events;
- performing general duties within the Grounds Maintenance workgroup such as seeding, sodding, leaf/debris clean-up and other related ground maintenance and/or repair duties;
- winter snow and/or ice control operations;
- ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
- providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and/or staff; and
- other duties as required and assigned.
For approximately four (4) months of the year, the position reports to the Supervisors of Operations (Roads & Traffic), and is under the daily direction of the Working Foreperson(s).
The Labourer (Roads/Traffic) is responsible for:
- operating and maintaining various equipment, vehicles and tools;
- snow clearing and application of salt on the road, sidewalk and/or trail areas;
- additional general labourer duties such as flagging and traffic control; installation of traffic signs and detours; fence and concrete repairing and/or installing
- assisting with roadway patrolling, maintenance, repairs and/or clean up;
- tree trimming and/or removal;
- performing general duties within the roads and traffic maintenance workgroup such as seeding, sodding, debris pick up , ditching, grass or brush cutting and other related road and boulevard maintenance and/or repair duties;
- ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
- providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and other members of staff in a courteous manner; and,
- assisting with other duties as assigned.

You are knowledgeable about and work in compliance with all workplace safety regulations, standards, and practices. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.
What You Bring To Our Team
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
- a secondary school graduation diploma;
- a minimum of one (1) year directly related experience with parks and/or grounds maintenance;
- a minimum of one (1) year directly related experience in roads and roadway maintenance;
- a valid Class “DZ” Driver’s Licence, maintained in good standing;
- a demonstrated ability to safely operate vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W., including tandem axle vehicles;
- a successful completion of Defensive Driving training, preferred;
- a demonstrated ability to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- the ability to operate various tools and equipment in a safe manner; and
- physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. in varying weather conditions.

- Salary: $28.31 - $35.42 per hour (Band G)

Roads - Flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Parks - This position may work flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Between December-March shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Between the months of April-November shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Sunday to Saturday
