This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.
This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.
Who we are
We are the Family Resource Unit in Yukon’s Department of Health and Social Services. While working closely with Yukon First Nations we aim to make a difference through the delivery of Yukon-wide services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.
Your role
The Family Resource Worker is responsible for providing and maintaining culturally appropriate, home based support services and groups for caregivers with children aged 0-19 within Yukon. The position works to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship by enhancing parenting skills, reducing caregiver stress, and addressing the needs of caregivers to promote a safe and healthy environment for children and their caregivers. The position works closely with other government and non-government resources in the provision and coordination of services to the child(ren) and families.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Completion of Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma or a Diploma/ Degree in a related field, such as Psychology
- Experience identifying risks to families and children
- Experience working with parents
- Experience maintaining client records
- Experience facilitating groups would be an asset

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:
- Proven ability to build rapport and trust in relationships with clients, collaterals, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding the values and practice of strength-based, family centered services.
- Awareness of child protection and Child and Family Services Act.
- Understanding of Yukon First Nations Culture and self-reflective cultural practices
- Ability to contact assessments (i.e. risks to families and children, family strengths and goals, family functioning)

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Yukon class 5 drivers’ licence or equivalent
- TB screening
- Verification of education WHMIS 2015 (completed within 1-month of hire)
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Work evenings and weekends
- Travel throughout territory in adverse weather conditions
