This posting will be used to fill anticipated upcoming permanent and term positions.
Yukon University is seeking two dedicated and professional part-time Safety & Security Officers to join our team. In this dynamic role, you will help maintain a safe and secure environment for students, staff, visitors, campus housing occupants and the public. You will be the first line of response in emergencies and a key part of creating a positive, respectful, and safe campus culture.
As a Safety & Security Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security of the University’s buildings, property, and community. Your duties will include patrolling the campus, providing customer service, monitoring alarms and security systems, responding to emergency situations, and assisting with incidents involving students, staff, and visitors. You will provide first aid when needed and help manage access to University facilities. Additionally, you will collaborate with external emergency services, contribute to special event planning, and ensure that safety concerns such as hazards and spills are addressed promptly. Your ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English, respond quickly and calmly under pressure, and complete detailed written reports will be key to your success in this role. Candidates must be diligent, observant, reliable and skilled in deescalating situations of conflict. Extensive training in a wide range of relevant areas is provided.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of security and safety procedures and equipment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations and de-escalate conflict
- Physical ability to walk/stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours/day) and lift up to 40 kg
- Professional, customer-service focused demeanor
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, email, databases)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Ability to pass a criminal records check and be bondable
- Excellent written and verbal English skills
- Advanced First Aid/CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- Willingness to wear a uniform
Preferred:
- Prior security training or experience in a similar role
