This newly established executive leadership position represents a strategic investment in the future of physician leadership, academic excellence, clinical innovation, and healthcare transformation. As Windsor Regional Hospital continues to evolve and prepare for the future of healthcare delivery, this role will play a critical part in strengthening the integration of physician leadership, research, education, and clinical excellence across the organization.
Reporting directly to the President & CEO and working in close partnership with the Chief of Staff, the Vice President, Medicine, Research & Academics will serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in advancing physician engagement, developing future medical leaders, expanding academic partnerships, promoting research initiatives, and enhancing collaboration across clinical and administrative functions. This role will also serve as Deputy Chief of Staff, providing leadership continuity and supporting medical governance initiatives across the organization.
Position Availability
This posting is for a permanent part-time position, approximating 20 – 24 hours per week

What You’ll Be Responsible For
Physician Leadership & Engagement Developing, mentoring, and supporting emerging physician leaders. Designing and implementing physician leadership development and succession planning programs. Supporting physician onboarding, professional growth, and leadership advancement opportunities. Promoting physician wellness, resilience, retention, and engagement initiatives. Building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and leadership excellence across the medical staff.
Research, Innovation & Academic Advancement
Strengthening relationships with universities, research institutions, and educational partners. Supporting clinical research, innovation, and scholarly activity throughout the organization. Identifying and advancing opportunities for research funding, grants, and collaborative initiatives. Supporting faculty development, learner experiences, and continuing medical education opportunities. Promoting knowledge translation and evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes and organizational performance.
Strategic and Organizational Leadership
Championing strategic physician-led initiatives aligned with organizational priorities. Leading transformational projects that improve healthcare delivery, quality, and patient outcomes. Supporting accreditation readiness, quality improvement initiatives, and system integration efforts. Fostering strong collaboration between physician leadership, administrative leadership, and clinical teams. Participating as an active member of the Executive Committee, contributing to biweekly executive leadership meetings. Acting as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO, Chief of Staff, Medical Advisory Committee, and physician leaders throughout the organization.
Medical Governance & Accountability
Supporting medical leadership performance management processes. Establishing and monitoring leadership scorecards and performance metrics. Promoting transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the medical leadership structure. Supporting physician leaders in achieving departmental and organizational objectives. Strengthening medical governance frameworks and physician leadership consistency across the organization.
Deputy Chief of Staff Responsibilities
Supporting enterprise-wide physician leadership initiatives and governance activities. Representing the Chief of Staff when delegated. Ensuring continuity of physician leadership during absences or transitional periods. Serving as Acting Chief of Staff when required.
The Ideal Candidate
A licensed physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Eligibility for appointment to the Professional Staff of Windsor Regional Hospital. Advanced education in leadership, healthcare administration, business, quality improvement, medical education, or other related disciplines. Progressive senior leadership experience within complex healthcare environments. Demonstrated success in physician engagement, leadership development, research advancement, and academic collaboration. Previous hands-on experience leading physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and organizational change initiatives. Demonstrated strengths in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, physician relations, change leadership, and organizational transformation. A proven commitment to patient-centered care, continuous learning, innovation, and organizational excellence. Previous experience serving as a Department Chief, Medical Director, Program Director, Chief of Staff, or in another senior medical leadership capacity is considered a strong asset.
