What you will do:
Using American Sign Language (ASL) you will:
- Support clients with community involvement and independence to optimize the individual’s quality of life
- Assist and teach daily living activities, and life skills to promote the self-esteem and well-being
- Daily documentation and reporting
- Menu planning and/or preparation
- Medication Administration (as delegated)
- Managing challenging behaviors and situations using CPI knowledge and principles
- Support clients with varied level of personal care (e.g. hand-over-hand, full support, etc.)
- Assisting with household activities and chores
- Companionship
What you will need to be successful
- Experience/knowledge of working with adult clients with intellectual and mental disabilities.
- Experience/knowledge of working with clients with alcohol and drug dependencies and behavioural challenges.
- Must have a valid certification in emergency first Aid and CPR. -MUST have American Sign Language (ASL) level 2/3
- Required to have a clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry valid in the last 6 months.
- Minimum Grade Twelve education, preferably post-secondary, Developmental Service Worker Certificate, Health Care Aide certification or a combination of related education/experience.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment, sound decision making abilities and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
