Program 1
**Appointment Dates:**May 25, 2026 to June 26, 2026 & July 6-August 7, 2026
Appointment Duration: 18+ in-person program - 5 week semi-intensive (20 hours of formal English instruction, workshops and other language-intensive activities) per week (Monday to Wednesday 8:30am to 3:00pm & Thursdays 8:30am-11:50am).
Program 2
**Appointment Dates:**July 6, 2026 to August 7, 2026.
Appointment Duration: 16+ virtual program - 5 week semi-intensive (20 hours of formal English instruction, workshops and other language-intensive activities) per week (Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 1:45 pm).
Program 3
**Appointment Dates:**July 6, 2025 to August 14, 2026.
Appointment Duration: 13-15-year-old virtual program - 6 week semi-intensive (20 hours of formal English instruction, workshops and other language-intensive activities) per week (Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 1:45 pm).
Course delivery for both programs: Remote
Salary:$2,965 - $5,930

This position exists to deliver Explore Program curriculum virtually to Canadian or Permanent Resident
students for whom French is their first language or language of adoption and international students.
Instructors are expected to teach for the dates of their contract. Teaching assignments are made based
on what is best for the program.
Qualifications:
- University degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Completion of a TESL Canada recognized TEAL training program with:
- A minimum of 100 hours of theory and methodology
- A supervised practicum of a minimum of 20 hours
- Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching English as an Additional Language or English as a Foreign Language
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working with middle school/high school students would be an asset
- Competence using computers required
- Experience with virtual learning platforms and techniques required
- Experience using UMLearn would be an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom required
- Empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students learning online is required
- Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to language, learning, and cultural barriers required
- Ability to work independently, proactively and productively required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills required
- Excellent leadership and team building skills required
- A satisfactory employment record, including teaching record and attendance, is required.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
This course will be taught remotely. The successful candidate must be able to work remotely using the online platforms selected by the ELC and is expected to use virtual learning platforms and techniques.
- Instructing/Teaching/Assessing remotely
- Provide and maintain a safe, supportive and effective learning environment
- Follow the curriculum guide
- Prepare online lessons, assignments, materials and assessments with a focus on:
- Winnipeg and Manitoba’s history which includes Indigenous experiences and perspectvies
- the development of grammatical, speaking, listening, writing and reading skills
- Create and adapt content according to language level
- Collaborate with colleagues with program or teaching related materials development
- Prepare and deliver innovative and fun in-class activities
- Provide asynchronous learning opportunities to students
- Maintain consistency and meet curriculum expectations
- Maintain accurate electronic records
- Submit documents, reports, etc. electronically by the required deadlines
- Document and submit student issues and/or concerns
- Meet with students online
- Attend various online program related activities
- Attend weekly meetings with the Program Coordinator
- Comply with UM and ELC policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
