The Government of Manitoba is seeking a dedicated Occupational Health Specialist to join the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) branch. The OSH branch is responsible for providing strategic leadership, policy development, and oversight of occupational safety and health programs across all departments, ensuring compliance with legislation, and fostering a culture of safety and well-being in the public service.

Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Employee Safety and Injury Prevention, the Occupational Health Specialist plays a key role in promoting and maintaining the health, safety and well-being of employees across the Manitoba public service. The Specialist provides professional assessment, advisory and consultation services related to functional abilities, workplace restrictions, accommodation needs and safe return¿to¿work options, applying clinical, functional or ergonomic expertise within their regulated scope of practice. The position contributes to health-informed components of the provincial Safety Management System (SMS), leads and supports the development and enhancement of occupational health programs and prevention initiatives, and provides guidance to departments on occupational health policies, safe work practices, and the interpretation of medical or functional information. The Specialist supports policy development and continuous improvement and analyzes occupational health data to identify trends, inform strategic decision¿making, and strengthen a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment. This role participates in health surveillance programs appropriate to professional scope, delivers education and training on health, well¿being, prevention and related topics, and collaborates with Human Resources, the Workers Compensation Board, unions and external partners on employee well¿being and injury prevention.

Qualifications:

Essential

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health, Nursing, Kinesiology, Ergonomics, Public Health, Occupational Therapy or related discipline
• Professional registration with applicable Manitoba regulatory body
• Experience in disability case management, program development, health surveillance programs, ergonomic assessment, occupational health, RTW, or accommodations
• Knowledge of the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act, regulations and related standards to workplace situations
• Knowledge of WCB processes (e.g., claims, restrictions, return to work) to support accommodation, RTW and disability management.
• Experience interpreting and applying occupational health regulatory frameworks (e.g., exposure requirements, health surveillance, professional practice standards) to workplace decisions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Desired

• Experience in community health, emergency, ambulatory care, or critical care
• Knowledge of respiratory protection, hearing conservation, psychological health and safety, and hazardous exposure monitoring
• Completion of a recognized Occupational Health Nursing Certificate program or Canadian Nursing Association certification in Occupational Health

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Internal Security Screening

• Must maintain registration and good standing with the applicable Manitoba regulatory body

• Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba and possess a valid driver’s licence

• Must be able to work overtime as required
