About The Role
As ATB’s next Senior Private Banking Advisor, your focus will be to deliver a high-touch, relationship-driven banking experience to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients in Alberta. This role works within an advisory team that includes a Private Banking Associate, Client Experience Specialist, and a Financing Specialist. Serving as a trusted advisor to clients and their families, you will provide holistic financial guidance across banking, credit, investment, and wealth planning needs.
The Senior Private Banker is accountable for building and managing a portfolio of affluent clients, deepening existing relationships, and acquiring new clients through proactive business development, a strong community presence, and collaboration with internal partners. The role requires strong financial acumen, credit expertise, and the ability to coordinate complex solutions tailored to each client’s financial goals.
Accountabilities
Client Relationship Management
Develop and manage a portfolio of high-net-worth clients and their families. Build trusted advisory relationships through deep discovery and understanding of each client’s financial objectives, family dynamics and long-term wealth goals. Deliver a personalized and proactive service model that reflects a private banking experience. Conduct regular client reviews and strategic financial discussions to ensure client strategies remain aligned with their evolving needs. Deepen mutually beneficial relationships between clients across ATB Financial. Negotiate terms, conditions, structuring fees/interest rates and documentation to provide effective and competitive financing proposals to customers, resulting in the closing of transactions. Manage a large portfolio of high-net-worth families with highly complex needs to ensure that accounts are operating in a manner consistent with ATB’s policies. Act as the key relationship manager and primary contact for high-net-worth and complex clients.
Business Development and Growth
Acquire new high-net-worth clients through professional networks, referrals, community involvement, and partnerships with internal teams. Expand share of wallet with existing clients by identifying opportunities across lending, deposits, investments, and wealth planning solutions. Build strong relationships with centres of influence, such as accountants, lawyers, and business advisors in the local market. Maintain an active presence in the local business and professional community to enhance brand visibility and client acquisition. Contact high-net-worth clients identified from several sources, including referrals, and schedule client meetings. Respond to and follow up on internal opportunities generated and referred from the Retail Branch network, Client Care Centre, and Relationship Managers. Develop a marketing plan that actively promotes customized ATB Private Banking solutions alongside sophisticated lending and risk management solutions, including: equity monetization, currency and interest rate risk management, insurance lending, and corporate lending opportunities.
Integrated Wealth and Credit Solutions
Deliver integrated financial solutions that may include complex credit structures, investment strategies, liquidity planning, and intergenerational wealth planning. Work closely with internal partners—including wealth advisors, portfolio managers, estate and trust specialists, and commercial banking teams—to deliver comprehensive solutions. Structure and manage sophisticated lending arrangements, including lending secured by investments, real estate, or business interests. Provide guidance on cash management, investment portfolio leverage strategies, and overall net worth and balance sheet optimization.
Accountabilities
Risk Management and Governance
Maintain strong adherence to credit, compliance, and regulatory standards. Ensure client accounts and facilities are managed in accordance with risk policies and internal governance requirements. Monitor banking performance, credit quality, and client activity to identify emerging risks or opportunities. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all client interactions meet regulatory and operational standards. Ensure new credit requests as well as annual reviews are promptly, efficiently, and consistently adjudicated. Conduct risk assessments and in-depth financial analyses to ensure credit decisions and recommendations are made in accordance with sound credit-granting principles, as well as ATB lending policies and procedures. Manage all aspects of the portfolio, including reviewing for compliance with laws, regulations, and risk exposure (e.g., operational and credit risk).
Collaboration and Leadership
Collaborate with internal partners across wealth management, commercial banking, and retail banking to deliver a seamless client experience. Share insights on the high-net-worth market in Alberta and contribute to regional business strategy. Act as an ambassador for private banking within the community and internally within the organization.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
The private banking market is financially sophisticated, demanding, and results-oriented. The following skills and knowledge are required to be successful in this role:
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in financial services, including commercial banking, wealth management, or high-net-worth client advisory. Extensive knowledge of customized lending, commercial underwriting, and a proven ability to make sound credit decisions. Excellent presentation, risk assessment, analytical, accounting, and financial analysis skills. Strong knowledge of wealth planning strategies. Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is required (or must be obtained within 30 months of start date). Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, or a related discipline. Professional designations such as CIM or CFA are considered strong assets. Strong understanding of the Alberta market, particularly business owners, professionals, and agricultural clients. Demonstrated success in building and growing relationships with affluent clients. Advanced and proven deal structuring, negotiation, and sales management skills with strong closing capabilities. Ability to relate comfortably with affluent and influential clientele in both business and social contexts, displaying a high degree of poise and professionalism at all times, alongside demonstrated experience delivering on the needs of the affluent and ultra-high-net-worth markets.
