We are seeking an Intermediate to Senior Hydrogeologist that can be based out of any of our offices. All employees are fully equipped to work from home or one of our offices.

This role involves working with our hydrogeologists, project managers, field staff and other technical specialists on a wide range of water resource projects across Canada. These projects include field investigations for physical and contaminant hydrogeology, hydrogeological impact assessments, contaminant transport analysis, water resource assessments, and expert reviews of environmental assessments for Indigenous communities. Business development and marketing activities, including proposal writing, client relationship building, and pursuing new business opportunities, are also important aspects of this role.

Clients include Indigenous communities, developers, commercial and industrial operators and federal, provincial and municipal government departments).

Key Responsibilities

Develop, manage, conduct, and supervise hydrogeological and water resource investigations and monitoring, infiltration testing, and re-infiltration option analysis and design.

Data analysis including

Estimating hydrogeological and hydrological parameters; Calculating contaminant transport directions and rates. Evaluating surface water and groundwater connectivity; Water balance calculations Interpret site hydrogeological conditions from geological maps, reports, survey plans, air photos, and physical and chemical data.

Conduct water resource impact assessments

Train field staff on hydrogeology field techniques Negotiate with regulatory bodies Drive business development by networking, building relationships, and attracting clients in new market sectors. Write technical proposals. Advise and collaborate with clients on a broad range of technical issues. Conduct third-party reviews of environmental assessments and permitting projects for Indigenous communities. Provide technical support conducting and/or overseeing monitoring programs for the evaluation of contaminated sites environmental risk assessment for regulatory requirements. May lead planning, managing, and executing contaminated site projects at a senior level (if relevant experience is possessed). Provide technical direction and mentoring to junior staff. Contribute to the development of internal protocols and procedures. Contribute to PGL’s corporate initiatives.

Job Requirements

5 to 10+ years of experience in hydrogeology.

Professional designation (i.e., P.Eng, P.Geo) in BC, Alberta and/or Ontario

Proven project management and budgeting skills for small to complex projects. Strong technical writing skills and the ability to perform quality assurance/quality control on projects (a writing sample will be required during the interview process). Strong relationship building and business development abilities. Excellent troubleshooting skills. Exceptional client service skills, both internal and external. Willingness to travel and potentially work in remote locations. Flexibility to work hours based on project requirements. Groundwater modelling experience is an asset. Hydrology experience is an asset. A working knowledge of Provincial, Territorial, and Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards is an asset. Experience with contaminated site investigations is desirable but not mandatory.
