About the role
Location: Flexible / Remote (Open to candidates living anywhere in Nova Scotia)
Position Type: Full-Time (New Graduate Opportunity)
Soccer Nova Scotia (SNS) is looking for a creative, organized and ambitious Communications Coordinator. This is a newly created position and an exciting opportunity for a communications professional who understands how strong communication builds awareness, trust and engagement. You will take full ownership of our voice, lead our storytelling, and keep our community connected. If you want to build a portfolio that includes everything from government relations and member engagement to grassroots social media campaigns, this is your pitch.
Who You Are:
- Above all, you are highly collaborative and relationship-first.
- With a love for storytelling, you have a knack for turning "updates" into engaging narratives.
- You are self-motivated and organized enough to manage a busy calendar while staying agile for the "live" moments of the season.
- You have a strong digital fluency and are naturally curious about new solutions; comfort with digital tools (social media platforms, basic website updates, Canva, Mailchimp or similar) will help you hit the ground running.
- You have a diploma or degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- You have an interest in sport, community building, or public-interest organizations (soccer knowledge is an asset, not a requirement).
Main Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Director, as our Communications MVP, you will own day-to-day communications operations, ensuring that all communications activities support the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Owning the public-facing communications and digital space: Manage our social media presence, manage our website to ensure a member-first experience, and launch creative content campaigns.
- Building Community Trust: Produce monthly “Inside Soccer Nova Scotia” updates, coordinate town halls, and dedicated bulletins for our vital coaches, officials, clubs, districts and leagues.
- Media & Government Relations: Draft media releases to celebrate system wins and support our government relations (GR) plan advocating for critical infrastructure development.
- Strategic Execution: Lead the charge on annual reports, webinars, and pulse surveys to ensure we are meeting the needs of our members.
- Measuring Impact: develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and lead our internal review sessions to refine our strategy and ensure we’re meeting communications objectives.
You won’t be doing this alone—we’ll support your growth with coaching, clear priorities, and room to learn as you build confidence in this role.
Why Join the Team?
Soccer Nova Scotia is where passion meets profession. This is an opportunity to build a diverse PR portfolio, covering everything from grassroots community engagement to high-level thought leadership. Salary is commensurate with experience. It’s also a “make it your own” role with direct impact on a provincial scale. (And it’s a World Cup year with Canada serving as a co-host!)
At Soccer Nova Scotia, we believe the beautiful game is for everyone. Our team should reflect the diverse communities we serve across the province. We are a welcoming and supportive environment that values the unique perspectives you bring, and we are happy to provide accommodation throughout the recruitment process. We hit our goals best when our team includes a variety of backgrounds, skills, and identities.
While our main office is in Halifax, we are a provincial organization. We welcome applications from talented grads across the entire province—from Sydney to Yarmouth. This is a remote-friendly role with occasional travel for key events and team meetings.
