##Job Information
Based in Yellowknife and reporting to the Manager, Maternal Child Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is part of a dedicated obstetrical team providing care to low to high risk mothers and newborns on the Obstetrics (OBS) Unit.
The OBS Unit supports approximately 600 births per year, with an average daily census of five inpatients and outpatients, offering a close knit, team based environment where your work makes a visible difference.
You may rotate through any of the following areas: Labour & Delivery (including Neonatal Resuscitation support), Antenatal and Postnatal Care (mothers and newborns), Nursery and, Operating Room. Based on hospital needs and patient acuity, you may also provide standardized nursing care on other units within the LPN scope of practice
You'll make a direct difference every day-supporting healthy births, strong family bonds, and positive patient experiences while working in a setting that values collaboration, learning, and professional respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate, client and family centred nursing care to obstetrical patients and newborns in accordance with professional standards, ethics, and organizational policies.
- Assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate individualized plans of care using a holistic and evidence based approach.
- Assist with labour, delivery, recovery, breastfeeding support, and Caesarean sections within scope of practice.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, registered nurses, and the interprofessional team to support positive patient outcomes.
- Educate and support patients and families regarding care, treatment plans, and health promotion.
- Advocate for patient dignity, autonomy, privacy, safety, and informed decision making.
- Maintain infection prevention, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness standards.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, quality improvement, and support a positive, respectful team environment.
Key Qualifications
- A Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma
AND
- The completion of an OBS specific training program (minimum 3 months)
AND
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in obstetrics
Additional Requirements

Current registration with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN) before commencement of employment is mandatory
