Under the general direction of the Forestry Section Head (or delegate), be responsible for the coordination and oversight of
distribution utility vegetation management programs, contracts and contractors in Parkland West and Southern Central Manitoba.
Conduct pre-and post-treatment surveys of the distribution system to assist in program development and to ensure contractor
performance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and Implement planned Forestry utility vegetation management programs and project objectives.
- Regularly coordinate and liaise with the Section Head (or delegate) to assign work to forestry resources, allocate crews or
develop contracts to best meet utility vegetation management program and project objectives.
- Host and facilitate contractor pre-start up meetings including meeting agendas, meeting summaries and all other related
documentation and coordination requirements.
- Monitor contractor performance and productivity, including field safety audits of contracted maintenance crews.
- Negotiate extra work units, approve invoices and issue substantial completion and contract completion certificates.
- Carryout and participate in development, evaluation, and implementation of tendering documents for new contracts related to
programs and projects including cost share initiatives.
- Promote safety and environmental compliance with all Corporate, Provincial and Federal regulations pertaining to the
vegetation management programs and projects.
- Liaise with contractors, Customer Service Centre staff, Transmission Line Maintenance staff, Indigenous Relations
Department staff, and government agencies relating to Forestry's maintenance programs, including advice on vegetation
management options, methods, equipment, and products.
- Conduct vegetation surveys identifying program locations and proposed management methods.
- Support of the GPS/GIS database tracking and documenting all of the vegetation management including that performed
indirectly (through other internal or external groups).
- Provide advice on vegetation management options including methods, equipment and products.
- Liaise with the Indigenous Relations Group to engage communities interested in vegetation management through directly
negotiated contracts.
- Prepare technical and production reports relative to vegetation management programs
- Receive vegetation management program and project requests, liaise with Section Head (or delegate) to determine best
execution strategy, allocate crews or develop contracts to best meet objectives.
- Keep abreast of new trends and developments in the Utility Vegetation Management industry and assist in the evaluation of
their impact on the Corporation's programs.
Qualifications:
- Four-year Bachelor of Science degree (Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences or major in Related Discipline)
from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of two years directly related experience where one year is working in

utility vegetation management or supervising vegetation management contractors.
OR
- Two-year Forestry Technician diploma or Natural Resource Management diploma or Related Discipline and a minimum of
four years directly related experience where two years is working in utility vegetation management or supervising vegetation
management contractors.
OR
- Certified Utility Arborist (UTT, UA, CUA, or equivalent) and a minimum of six years' experience working in utility vegetation
management including supervising vegetation management contractors.
- Contract development and administration experience would be an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Provincial Regulations pertaining to vegetation management including pesticide use and
Migratory Birds Act would be an asset. ¬
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to analyze data and prepare technical reports.
- Self motivated and the ability to perform with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing Geographic Information Software as well as other modern software applications.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of Corporate Safety and Health rules.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $35.94-$49.73 Hourly,
$68,873.74-$95,300.14 Annually.
