About the role
What is your opportunity?
You will be an integral member of Personal Banking and Commercial Banking Compliance’s Advisory team and will lead and provide strategic insight, direction and support to the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance lines of businesses to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable Market Conduct Obligations - including Consumer Protection regulations, Voluntary Codes of Conduct and Public Commitments, Competition Act, and various provincial regulations - which is paramount to Personal Banking and Commercial Banking Compliance’s North Star vision and its strategic priorities.
You will be the primary relationship manager and subject matter expert for the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance LOBs and liaises with management, compliance and functional partners to mitigate regulatory compliance risk exposures, regulatory scrutiny, administrative monetary penalties and public notification, by proactively engaging in risk assessments and controls oversight, along with escalating compliance issues and overseeing client and system remediation activities.
What will you do?
- Conduct / approve risk assessments and oversee activities needed to mitigate regulatory compliance risk and ensure the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance LOBs have implemented adequate controls.
- Advocate for the adoption of regulatory compliance best practices that meet or exceed regulatory expectations.
- Communicate regulatory changes with the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance LOBs; shares accountability with the business to ensure all required business processes and controls are in place by the “coming into force” date of regulatory requirements.
- Ensure regulatory and policy matters are well understood and actively managed by assisting through answering questions, researching issues and providing recommendations, identifying and escalating execution gaps and operationalizing compliance policy requirements in a complete and timely manner.
- Proactively manage and mitigate regulatory compliance risks and strikes the right balance of supporting business partners, while keeping customers’ needs, interests and experience at the centre of all decisions.
- Use strong business acumen to advise and provide effective challenge to business and compliance partners on regulatory compliance issues, root cause analysis, actions and remediation plans in line with Regulator expectations and requirements
- Identify areas of improvement and automation possibilities for key processes and creatively collaborate with others to lead projects to implement changes to improve scalability and velocity and embrace agile practices.
- Partner with the Monitoring team within Personal Banking and Commercial Banking Compliance to oversee: Regulatory compliance control effectiveness monitoring routines and implementation of RBC Enterprise Policies by the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance LOBs.
What do you need to succeed?
- Knowledge of banking and/or work experience in areas such as risk management, audit, or compliance.
- Experience interpreting regulations.
- Knowledge of the design, implementation, and effectiveness assessment of controls.
- Professional designation, MBA or equivalent
- Strong business acumen, strategic, critical thinker with natural curiosity and an always learning growth mindset.
- Analytical thinking and an ability to triangulate multiple sources of data and information to draw meaningful trends and insights.
- Strong collaborator with deep organizational awareness who will build credibility quickly and who can impact and influence partners across the organization (Personal Banking and Commercial Banking, Compliance, Legal, GRM and other functional partners) and stakeholders and builds critical relationships across the organization.

- Experience in offering effective challenge to the Personal Financing Products and Creditor Insurance lines of businesses on regulatory submission content, compliance issue remediation and action plans, root cause analysis and client remediation approaches
