About the role
Position Summary The Production Supervisor (Acheson) is accountable to the Plant Manager and is responsible for safety, streamlining production processes, keeping costs down (efficiency), quality, decreasing errors, maintaining equipment up time, meeting deadlines and supervising employees.
Key Accountabilities
- Operational Leadership & Workforce Management – Provide strong leadership on the production floor by supervising, training, and developing employees, ensuring resources are used efficiently to meet production targets.
- Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement – Promote a safe work environment and apply lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, enhance quality, and drive continuous improvement.
- Equipment & Process Optimization – Oversee preventative maintenance and process improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and overall operational efficiency
Major Responsibilities
- Lead production teams by supervising daily operations, overseeing training, motivating employees, and ensuring efficient use of personnel and resources.
- Foster a culture of safety by maintaining knowledge of safety requirements, enforcing compliance, and addressing any violations promptly.
- Develop and manage production schedules, ensuring equipment maintenance and preventative tasks are performed to minimize downtime and achieve equipment uptime goals.
- Apply lean manufacturing tools (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Root-Cause Analysis) to drive efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
- Address production challenges promptly to maintain output and meet operational goals
- Assist with hiring decisions, recommend additional talent where needed, and supervise training to build a skilled and engaged workforce.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure production aligns with organizational goals and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to process improvement initiatives within the production function.
- Assume responsibility for other tasks and projects as they occur.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education required; post-secondary education in a technical or business discipline considered an asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of prior supervisory experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience working within the manufacturing sector; metal roll form experience considered an asset.
- Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing tools and methods such as 5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Root-Cause Analysis an asset.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities with proven ability to motivate, influence, and train employees.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP and UKG considered an asset
