About the role
Under the direction of Protective Services Manager, the Community Peace Officer provides security for all patients, staff and visitors. The officer also protects all properties belonging to the hospital and ensures that security related complaints are properly investigated and the facts are reported to the hospital management for appropriate action. This is a multi-site position that will be assigned shifts at the following 4 Covenant Health Sites, Edmonton General Continuing Care Center, Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Misericordia Community Hospital & Villa Caritas. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement. Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized Diploma related to Police Studies, Security or Criminology or equivalent required. Valid First Aid Certificate and Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Required to be in good physical condition and provide proof of successful completion of Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) Must possess a valid operator's license and provide a clear criminal records check for which a pardon has not been granted, and have no charges pending before the courts.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer by the Alberta Solicitor General’s Public Security Department. Ability to obtain Commissioner for Oaths status required. Good computer skills, in a Microsoft Windows/Office environment. Superior demonstration of communications and interpersonal skills. Possess good investigative report writing skills. Familiarity with Canadian law. Effective handling of stress, conflict/negotiation skills. Ability to function in a team and individual environment. Ability to function independently, knowing when to refer issues upwards. Demonstrate ability for self-development and continued learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice preferred. Certificate in Non-violent Crisis Intervention preferred Five years related security/law enforcement experience preferred. Experience in a health care environment preferred. Minimum of 1 year by-law enforcement experience preferred. Experience with enforcement of provincial statutes preferred. PPCT with baton component preferred.
