Step into the world of tourism marketing as a Travel Media & Travel Trade Specialist with Destination Greater Victoria! This role puts you at the centre of exciting projects that showcase our destination to media, content creators, and travel trade partners. You will coordinate press trips, support trade shows, track media coverage, and create engaging newsletters and itineraries that highlight the best of Greater Victoria. Your work will include keeping contact databases organized, supporting collaborations with creators, and assisting with promotional campaigns that reach key markets. Working closely with a passionate team and valued partners, you will gain hands-on experience in media relations, travel trade development, and destination marketing. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to grow in the tourism industry while contributing to the visibility and success of Greater Victoria on the world stage.
This position is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work in-office at least three times per week, requiring the successful candidate to be located in the Greater Victoria region. It is a full-time 35/hrs a week role with a salary between $49,000-$55,000. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
What you need to bring:
- A degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Tourism, Business, or a related field, or a combination of education and/or work experience.
- A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in media relations, travel trade, social content creator, or tourism marketing role, with a strong understanding of both traditional and digital media.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, travel trade partners, and content creators.
- Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and new challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
- Experience in creating, coordinating, and executing media visits, content creator campaigns, and trade show participation.
- Proficiency in utilizing software tools for media monitoring, content management, and reporting (e.g., CRM systems, media databases, social listening tools).
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create compelling content and deliver presentations confidently.
