This role will provide “hands-on” proactive management of the employees engaged in the daily pick-up, handling and delivery of packages and freight, within prescribed standards of cost, efficiency, accuracy and on-time distribution. Implements new procedures to improve operational effectiveness and provides performance reports for management as required. Acts as a proactive member of the Sales resource team in the provision of Customer service solutions. This position will act as the leader amongst the Supervisor team. How will you contribute to the success of DHL? Recruits, orients, trains, schedules, manages and recommends discipline for all frontline unionized and salaried staff. Establishes/implements productivity, quality and cost measurements & strategies to achieve desired operational results. Ensures timely and accurate handling, inclusive of scanning and GSOP compliance, of incoming and or outgoing freight daily, in accordance with established standards and procedures. Completes accurate and timely reports for management as required (staffing schedules, attendance records, recruitment/ payroll documentation, dangerous goods incidents, health and safety, load quality, DF Compliance, regulatory reporting, etc). Ensures successful implementation & continued application of AQCC, process enhancements, driving continuous improvement, etc. Applies appropriate leadership/management style with open communication (i.e., communicates Corporate strategic plan, recognition of individual/team contributions) to motivate frontline unionized and salaried staff. Ensures sufficient staff resources, materials and supplies on hand always. Ensures warehouse is organized and set up for successful operations and manages successful shift exchanges. Maintains equipment, in safe, efficient operating condition always. Establishes/maintains a proactive programs in compliance with regulatory bodies, legislative requirements, and the collective agreement. Investigates employee complaints/grievances, prepares written replies and liaisons with Employee Relations, Operations Manger, and Sr. Gateway Operations Manager re: final responses. Establishes/maintains a proactive security program to safeguard the company’s physical assets. Implements & follows up on Customer Service solutions as determined by COG / Sales resource team. Identifies/tracks/adjusts operation to meet service standards by auditing & measuring productivity and results. Updates operations, customer service, and sales management on issues as required, and address complaints and escalations in a professional expedient manner. Performs other assignments like managing daily operations and stake holder management in the absence of Operations Managers. Identifies and addresses root causes for service failures. Ensures staff overtime/ costs is within approved budget. Ensures compliance with, CBSA, Transport Canada, IATA, CLC, OHSE, and other regulatory bodies as needed. Complete initial and continuous training on the CIS Medical Express Awareness, CIS Awareness trainings, and GDP principles; such training is to be proactively monitored to adhere to completion by staff/contractors as applicable Have a complete understanding of the Global SOP, Life Science GDP Policy, and Standards to be able to perform PD, GEMBA, self-assessment, and act as required within their facility, with staff and sub-contractors as applicable. Action and drive any corrective actions for compliance, continuous improvements for GDP as noted in GRID or as raised to the facility via WMX Support teams, customers, or others. All subcontracting activities that may affect GDP compliance and overall quality assurance in their area of responsibility are monitored GDP-related tasks, documents, and records are adhered to where applicable Follow compliance with local regulatory requirements related to GDP Any delegated responsibilities are documented for accountability Lead as required for the agreed Customer onsite meeting and the Customer requested audit Do you have what it takes? Excellent interpersonal skills. Proven communication skills - written & oral Demonstrated leadership, analysis & problem-solving skills. Very good PC skills (Office suite of applications, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Working knowledge/interpretation of Collective Agreements & Occupational Health & Safety Act. Demonstrated drive, initiative & flexibility to ensure task completion. Demonstrated time management & organization skills. College or University designation in an appropriate discipline. Manage multiple activities/deadlines. Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to be assertive. 3 years’ warehouse/on road operations experience in courier industry. Knowledge & compliance with Dangerous Goods/WHMIS special handling procedures. Prior working experience with quality/process improvement initiatives. Thank you for your application. Requirements
Requires at least three years of warehouse or on-road operations experience in the courier industry, along with leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. Candidates should have a college or university designation in an appropriate discipline, knowledge of collective agreements and occupational health and safety, and familiarity with dangerous goods procedures and process improvement.
