Your main focus will be on climate change and environmental issues, reporting on the changing climate and the challenges and opportunities it presents to our island province.
What you’ll do:

- Report and write stories for our website, as well as tailoring content to meet the varying needs of our platforms.
- Use social media to find sources, story ideas and topics of interest to the community each day and respond to explain why these talking pieces are important to P.E.I.

- Respond quickly to stories that are important to our readers, turning around pieces that will help grow readership online by providing context, analysis and explanations.
- Initiate and develop ideas for enterprise stories and investigative projects.
- Cultivate sources and establish expertise in order to break stories.
Who you are:
- Our ideal candidate is skilled at writing features as well as web reporting on immediate issues.
- We're looking for someone who is proficient at storytelling and able to write articles that can condense information in a way that explains or analyzes what’s happening for our online readers.
- Driven by the demands of speed and online readership growth, the multimedia journalist must flexibly juggle assignments as well as generating ideas for content to attract and keep readers returning to The Guardian's website daily.
- A strong understanding of SEO and best practices for web is considered a bonus, as is familiarity with platforms like WordPress, but support and training will be provided.
- Our candidate is a team player, willing to work with colleagues to do investigative pieces or larger projects, and able to work independently, as this is a work-from-home role.
- The candidate must be able to generate story ideas that coincide with the LJI mandate to cover climate change and the environment.
- The ability to use digital tools to identify news needs and maximize ways to meet them is critical to the position, as is working closely with the managing editor and assistant news editor.
