Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) to support project needs in our Canadian Operations with offices in Cambridge, ON, Toronto, ON, Guelph, ON, Ottawa, ON or Waterloo, Ontario. After initial training, this position offers the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule. The position will support project needs by computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of environmental, civil and geotechnical engineering design projects. We are seeking a motivated individual who can develop layouts, grading plans and details for civil engineering projects, including landfills, industrial sites and utilities. Projects also include process design engineering systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Operate a CAD computer using appropriate hardware and Civil 3D software to develop figures, drawings, and drawing sets; Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards; Understand and visualize overall civil/geotechnical engineering concepts, such as grading, and translating abstract concepts to design drawings; Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete drawings and drawing sets; Manage the production of drawing sets from creation, markup and modification based on overall design; Copy detailed plans and drawings and perform non-routine complex drafting assignments; Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar; Assist with mentoring and overseeing CAD Drafting Technicians, Participate in the CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company; and Work collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality. Skills, Experience And Qualifications Technician/Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering or associated program and a minimum of three (3) years (5+ preferred) of experience performing CAD drafting work in a professional engineering setting, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. (required) Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years. (preferred) Extensive knowledge of the latest releases of Autodesk Civil 3D (required); Extensive experience using Civil 3D, including but not limited to surfaces, alignments, profiles, profile views, cross-sections, data shortcuts, surface analyses, volume calculations, sheet set manager with fields, and coordinate systems (required); Qualified candidate will be required to take a Geosyntec Civil 3D exam to show proficiency in the software; Extensive experience using AutoCAD, including but not limited to annotation styles, multileaders, MTEXT, dimensions, scales, paper space/model space, XREFs, layers, dynamic blocks, and tool palettes (required); Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files. (required) Experience with MicroStation. (preferred) Ability to perform basic math skills including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. (required) Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team. Experience using the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer. (required) Strong reasoning and communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required) Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location. Minimum: $34.46/hour / Maximum: $41.73/hour (Cambridge, ON, Guelph, ON, Waterloo, ON) Minimum: $36.18/hour / Maximum: $43.75/hour (Toronto, ON, Ottawa, ON)

Requirements

A civil engineering or related technician/technology diploma and at least three years of professional engineering CAD drafting experience are required, with five or more years preferred. Candidates need extensive Civil 3D and AutoCAD experience, surveying or mapping data experience, strong technical interpretation and communication skills, and legal authorization to work in Canada; Autodesk certification and MicroStation experience are preferred.
