Job summary

Position - Civil Engineer Why you should join the GOLDBECK SOLAR team: GOLDBECK SOLAR Canada Corp., a subsidiary of GOLDBECK SOLAR GmbH, is a leading provider of turnkey ground-mounted utility scale PV power and battery storage plants headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. With our team of dedicated employees, we engineer, procure, construct, operate and maintain utility-scale photovoltaic and battery energy storage (BESS) systems in Canada and USA. We currently seek a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineer to support the design, engineering, and execution of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and BESS projects. This role plays a key part in both project delivery and business development, contributing to high-quality engineering outputs and competitive bid solutions. You will work closely with internal engineering, construction, procurement, and business development teams, as well as external partners including consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors. Responsibilities: Coordinate and manage engineering consultants to ensure timely, accurate, and complete deliverables, including permitting and staged design submissions (IFR 30/60/90, IFC, record), engineering calculations, and material take-offs. Support decisions on self-performing vs. subcontracting civil, structural, and mechanical engineering scopes. Review external engineering designs, drawings, and documentation for accuracy, constructability, adherence to project requirements, and compliance with Canadian and U.S. codes and standards. This may include stormwater design, environmental assessments, and hydrologic and hydraulic studies. Review project geotechnical reports and piling studies to assist with determining the best foundation type, stick up heights, and tracker configuration for the project during preliminary engineering and bid phases. Review and validate material take-offs, procurement requirements, shop drawings, and support subcontractor bid evaluations. Oversee and/or perform cut/fill site analysis and optimization. Conduct site visits and inspections, including environmental and erosion control compliance checks, surveying and piling coordination, installation quality assurance. Prepare and manage submittals, transmittals, and RFIs, ensuring documentation is organized and accessible. Provide technical support during construction, including drawing reviews, constructability input, survey coordination, and issue resolution. Assist in the qualification, selection, and management of subconsultants and suppliers, including maintaining approved vendor lists and coordinating deliverables. Coordinate and, where required, support surveying activities using field equipment (e.g., Trimble systems). Track progress, prepare daily plans and reports, and assist with construction coordination. Develop and implement quality control, commissioning, and inspection processes, including preparation of installation manuals, QC documentation, and site reporting. Review RFPs and provide technical and cost input related to civil, structural, mechanical, and constructability considerations. Develop material take-offs, cost estimates, and supplier quotations for project proposals. Collaborate with procurement, suppliers, and construction teams to ensure accurate and competitive proposals. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including standardization of engineering designs, reporting processes, and cost structures. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline). Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) or P.Eng. 4–7 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in renewable energy or infrastructure projects. Familiarity with solar PV systems, piling methodology, and construction practices is an asset. Experience with CAD, surveying tools, or engineering software. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Organized, proactive, and able to manage shifting priorities across multiple sites. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to travel to project sites in Canada and the USA. What We Offer: Base Salary: CA$120,000 – $150,000 based on experience. Eligibility for company bonus plan (10%). RRSP matching program. Comprehensive health and dental coverage. Hybrid work environment (4-days in office).
