Job details
JMC is pleased to partner with Don-More Surveys & Engineering Ltd. (DMSE) to recruit an Operations Manager. DMSE provides surveying, civil engineering, planning, and development design services throughout southern New Brunswick. With offices in Saint John and Sussex, the firm brings together the expertise clients need to move land development projects from concept to construction. As the firm continues to grow, DMSE is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to strengthen how work is planned, coordinated, and delivered. Role Overview Reporting to the President, the Operations Manager will oversee scheduling, workload planning, and delivery timelines across both offices. Working closely with surveyors, engineers, planners, and project managers, this person will establish clear processes, balance competing priorities, and keep projects moving. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who has managed workflow in a technical, project-based business and enjoys turning complex workloads into practical plans. Technical teams will remain responsible for surveying, engineering, and design, while the Operations Manager will lead the processes that support timely delivery. This is a full-time, permanent, in-person position, working Monday to Friday. The role is based in Saint John, with occasional work from the Sussex office. Key Responsibilities · Maintain a clear view of active projects, upcoming work, staffing capacity, and backlog across both offices. · Coordinate field crew schedules and office workloads and lead weekly production meetings. · Establish realistic turnaround times, monitor delivery commitments, and address delays. · Coordinate technical review and approval schedules to keep files moving. · Improve intake and quoting processes using consistent templates and pricing guidelines. · Establish client communication standards that support timely updates and clear expectations. · Work with project managers to align invoicing with project milestones and monitor unbilled work. · Maintain accurate project data and develop practical reports for leadership. · Collaborate with the firm’s software developer to improve its in-house project management system. · Lead and support coordination and administrative staff as the team grows. Education and Experience · Minimum of five years of experience in operations, project coordination, or project management within a project-based business. · Demonstrated success developing or improving processes, scheduling systems, or workflow practices. · Experience managing a high volume of active projects or files with competing deadlines. · Strong spreadsheet, data analysis, and reporting skills. · Ability to build productive relationships and hold teams accountable to agreed timelines. · Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. · Experience in engineering, surveying, architecture, or construction is an asset. · Knowledge of land development, municipal approvals, or real estate transactions is an asset. · Experience implementing or improving project management software and supervising coordination staff is an asset. · Relevant post-secondary education is an asset; practical experience and demonstrated results are key. What DMSE Offers · RRSP matching program. · Extended health, dental, and vision coverage. · Life and disability insurance. · Paid time off and on-site parking. · An opportunity to shape a new leadership role, work directly with the President, and support the firm’s continued growth. Questions can be directed to Chad Murray at chad@teamjmc.ca. We thank all interested applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
