About the role

Pine River Institute is a unique treatment center for youth 13 to 19 years of age struggling with substance abuse and addictive behaviours. Our program encompasses four seamless phases that include Outdoor Leadership Experience, Live In, Transition, and Aftercare; which create opportunities for youth to engage in a focused transformation of therapy, education, recreation, life skills, alongside a parental/caregiver parallel process.

Position: Full Time Nurse (M-F with flexibility to rotate days and evening)

Start Date: September 1, 2025

Location: Mulmur, On,

Wage: $65-70000/year commensurate with registration and experience

Reports to: Director of HR and Operational Support

Key responsibilities:

  • Understand and apply the PRI model of treatment as is pertains to medical support and education for the youth and their families
  • Manage day to day medical needs of students; making recommendations, and contact consulting physician as appropriate
  • Coordinate the medical admission of students by gathering required information, preparing it for consulting physician and ensuring staff are trained in pertinent medical information as may be required.
  • Oversee the prescription and non-prescription needs of students by working closely with the PRI physician/pharmacy.
  • Communicate medical needs to families/caregivers and keep them apprised of any changes
  • Act as the primary contact for the PRI physician through ongoing consultation, coordination of weekly/biweekly physician visits and follow up appointments
  • Identify areas of training needed to support students with medical needs
  • Maintain up to date medical records for all students
  • Ensure medical processes such as medication reconciliation and discharges are documented
  • Lead the health care requirement through the auditing, and updating of first aid kits and team medical binders
  • Manage the infection and prevention program
  • Lead the staff medical training requirements at PRI; (ex. medication distribution, allergic reactions, infection prevention and control)
  • Review health care policies to ensure accuracy and make recommendations to stay current with community care requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Registered with College of Nurses of Ontario, ( RPN or RN)
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check and CRC
  • Strong in-depth knowledge in a variety of clinical areas.
  • Previous experience in mental health and addictions preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient in Word/Excel and other Microsoft applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other health care professionals in a collaborative team environment
  • Interest in working in a youth Live in Youth Treatment Centre with mental health care partners

Our program is comprised of four seamless phases: Wilderness, Residence, Transition & Aftercare. We are a family-centred program where wilderness, therapeutic, and academic programs come together in a unique, integrated treatment and education model grounded in best practices for addiction treatment for youth. We are a not-for-profit organization. We receive funding support from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care via the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (TC LHIN) for 29 beds, and we offer fee-for-service beds as well. We offer continuous intake and operate 365 days a year, 24 hours per day. Length of stay is variable. Pine River is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
