The Opportunity:
Are you a curious, collaborative, and business-minded lawyer looking to grow your career in a dynamic media environment? Postmedia’s Legal Department is seeking a talented commercial and media lawyer—ideally based in Toronto—to join our close-knit, high-performing team.

Reporting to the EVP, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel, this role offers a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of business areas including editorial, sales, content, and parcel delivery. You’ll be a key partner to internal clients, helping them navigate legal challenges and seize opportunities. From commercial contracts and compliance to litigation oversight and strategic transactions, your work will directly support innovation and operational excellence across the company.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings a positive and proactive mindset, is eager to learn and grow alongside a supportive legal team and a great ambassador for the value that the legal department brings to the company.

What you’ll do:

  • Build trusted relationships with internal clients and become a go-to advisor on legal and strategic matters.
  • Provide practical, business-savvy legal advice that supports the company’s goals and mitigates risk.
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including content licenses, sales agreements and distribution agreements.
  • Oversee litigation matters, including managing external counsel on defamation, publication bans, and FOI requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on compliance programs and help drive continuous improvement these programs.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, integrity, collaboration and innovation within the legal team and across the organization.

Who you are:

  • 3 to 7 years’ experience since your Call to the Ontario Bar within a major law firm or corporate legal department;
  • Good standing as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada;
  • Experience in commercial contracting and one or both of media and/or intellectual propertylaw;
  • An inquisitive and positive attitude, sound judgement even in ambiguous situations and a strong interest in client service and being a true partner and service provider to the business;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a closely knit and supportive team;
  • Integrity and strong work ethic;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle competing demands in a fast-paced and changing work environment;
  • A strong ability to collaborate and provide practical and value added advice to the business; and
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
