Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is an 84 bed hospital located in Collingwood, Ontario (approximately 90 minutes north of Toronto) that serves more than 74,000 permanent residents and 3.5 Million annual visitors to the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and the Blue Mountains. CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). In addition, CGMH also provides care in specialty areas including obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care and surgery. The Hospital also provides out patient care including dialysis and a wide range of clinics including mental health and rehabilitation services. CGMH continues to provide care close to home for our community and plays a key role as an integrated orthopaedic centre for our region. The Opportunity:

The Cardiovascular Technologist is responsible for performing cardiac testing in the hospital in accordance with the standards of the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists. The cardiovascular technologist supports physicians and other hospital staff in the treatment of patients by providing preliminary reports in a timely manner to ensure quick results to ordering physicians. The cardiovascular technologist also provides teaching to other hospital staff, students and patients.

Qualifications:

  • Currently registered as a member of the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists

  • Must have a college diploma from a two-year program in Cardiovascular Technology

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Cardiovascular Technologist; varied experience in a diagnostic setting in an acute care hospital

  • Current BCLS certification

  • Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers

  • Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.

  • Must have basic computer skills

  • Must be dedicated to professional growth & development

  • Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.

  • Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record

  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills

  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the healthcare team

  • ECG interpretation course preferred

  • Additional healthcare-related education is considered an asset

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs accurate cardiac diagnostics (e.g. cardiac stress tests, ecgs, holter monitors)

  • Carries the ECG pager and responds to requests for ECG’s from all hospital areas.

  • Knowledge of assessment as related to environment (equipment safety, surroundings etc.)

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient/client care.

  • Identifies the components of informed consent

  • Recognizes the benefits of a team approach to the provision of health care.

  • Recognizes members of the health care team for their expertise they contribute.

  • Recognizes the role of other health care organizations

  • Demonstrates effective communication verbally, non-verbally and written.

  • Uses written and verbal skills to communicate diagnostic test results.

  • Uses common medical terminology

  • Develop and maintain records with respect to patient/client records, and daily personal MIS statistics.

  • Uses Meditech computer technology to capture patient information.

  • Has knowledge of hospital Infection Control guidelines

  • Adheres to Patient and Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations;

  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the worker’s employer requires to be used or worn;

  • Report to his or her employer or supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker; and

  • Report to his or her employer or supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.

  • Assesses and maintains adequate cardiology supplies for the department

  • Transportation of patients via wheelchair to other hospital areas

  • Review of departmental policies and procedures

  • On-going quality assurance assessments

  • Cardio equipment trial and evaluation

Hours of Work: Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights.

Wage: $35.41 - $42.05
