** Duties:**
· Conducting research and developing models to analyze economic behaviour and patterns including but not limited to benchmarking policy proposals for energy regulation in Canada, the United States, and the Middle East
· Monitoring regional and local economic trends and working with an interdisciplinary team conducting applied research and providing consulting services in support of both domestic and international engagements
· Developing total factor productivity models to analyze, explain, and forecast economic behaviour and patterns, and devising methods for collection and analysis of data
· Conducting quantitative analyses (statistical/econometric analysis, cost-benefit analysis, price forecasting) to provide support on commercial transactions, asset valuation, or planning activities
· Carrying out industry-focused research tasks to support the project team on regulatory economics and policy analyses
· Monitoring economic data to assess the effectiveness and advising on the appropriateness of government and private industry policies
· Drafting business cases for energy regulation, including in the electric and gas industries and municipal services, and examining problems related to the economic activity of government and industry policies at all levels
· Conducting analysis to support the firm’s consulting activities in electricity market transition, including the deployment of clean-tech technologies and wholesale power market reforms
· Staying current in policies, regulatory requirements, market trends, and technological development to update forecast processes within the company and for stakeholders.
Requirements:
· Master’s degree in economics or in a related discipline such as business administration, resource/environmental economics, public policy, international development, sustainability is required
· Course work should include economics, environmental/resource economics, finance, statistics or econometrics
· 3-5 years of relevant energy industry experience is required
· Demonstrated genuine interest in energy markets through direct experience in the power sector, gas sector, or energy infrastructure development
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
· Strong writing skills and the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise fashion
· Demonstrated ability to produce high quality quantitative and written analysis
· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
· Ability and willingness to travel periodically (hold a valid passport)
