Role
Reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM), the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Chief Operating Officer - Digital Design and Delivery (COO, DDD) fulfils the role of Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO). They will support the DM with key ministry strategic objectives ensuring successful delivery on ministry mandate and priorities, including regular and ongoing liaison with the Deputy Minister’s, Premier’s and Minister’s offices on critical operational and policy matters.
As the CDO, the ADM will oversee the DDD division and lead a platform-centric approach to digital design and delivery across government, enabling Ministries to deliver better services through standardized, scalable, and user-focused digital platforms. This role emphasizes operational excellence and the strategic use of enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow, Alberta.ca, and other identity management platforms to streamline service delivery, reduce duplication, and improve user experience.
As the COO, the ADM will provide strategic leadership and planning, and cross-department integration and will lead a review, and ongoing continual improvement, of ministry programs and operations to identify areas of inefficiency and redundancy to align programs. This will involve working closely with leaders within and across departments to find opportunities to create efficiency and eliminate redundancy, horizontally across government, with applications vertically in the department. The position will provide leadership in digital and technology enablement, with the ability to inspire and guide colleagues in exploring and realizing innovative, future-focused solutions through technology. The position will serve as a digital and technology champion, promoting the strategic adoption of modern platforms, emerging technologies (including artificial intelligence (AI)), and user-centered design to enhance operational performance and service delivery.
Qualifications
Success in this role calls for a progressive leader, with a background that includes extensive related executive management leadership experience, preferably in public service. You bring a deep understanding of government systems and decision-making processes, including legislative and policy development. Additionally, you possess demonstrated expertise in emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, automation, and data analytics, with a proven ability to assess, implement, and scale these technologies in a complex organization. You have a reputation of being highly digital literate and have applied knowledge of flexible, modern digital infrastructure, as well as new and emerging technologies and software engineering.
Exceptional communication skills, combined with advanced political acumen and ability to influence diverse groups will situate you well for success in this role. You are also a visionary leader, with demonstrated success motivating and engaging people to embrace a future -thinking, continuous innovation mindset. You have a proven track record developing organizational capacity for the future. Related post-secondary education is preferred.
Salary Rate
$6,403.39 to $8,403.71 bi-weekly. ($167,128 - $219,336 yearly)
