About the role
Knowles is seeking a dynamic individual who has extensive experience working with complex youth in a group care environment. The ideal candidate will have a positive and supportive leadership style who promotes a respectful and safe work environment. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are required to be successful in this role.
Duties:
- Coordinate all house-related activities
- Responsible for the hiring and onboarding of youth care workers
- Support a safe, nurturing and empowering living environment
- Regularly consult and work collaboratively with Knowles Centre’s therapists
- Responsible for determining/implementing the house rules
- Ensure all staff are using a strength-based approach when working with clients
- Complete regular supervision meetings and performance reviews
- Provide on-call coverage on a rotating basis
- Responsible for managing the house budget
- Coordinate and chair team meetings
- Ensure that recreational programming is frequent, engaging and meets the needs of participants
- Ensure house is properly maintained inside and out, and is in compliance with Knowles standards as well as workplace safety and health standards
- Attend and coordinate summer camp
- Knowledgeable regarding relevant legislation, regulations, provincial programs and standards
- Participate in annual licensing reviews as required
- Write individual reports for each client as required
- Attend and contribute to clients’ pre-conferences, case reviews and systems meetings
- Ensure clients receive medical, optical, dental and any other required health care
- Is knowledgeable of all Knowles Centre policies
- Perform youth care worker responsibilities as required.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant field
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred), a combination of education and experience with high needs children will also be considered
- Strong interest in working with high needs, at-risk youth
- Experience working with youth with behavioral and emotional difficulties
- Must have lived experience or extensive knowledge of Indigenous cultures, including teachings, ceremonies, and the impacts of colonization
- Possess in-depth knowledge of the impact of trauma and the principles of trauma informed care
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to de-escalate situations effectively
- Able to work effectively in a high stress, fast paced environment
- Successful applicant will be subject to a Criminal Background Check as well as Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, Vulnerable Sector and Prior Contact checks
- NVCI Training
- Valid CPR certificate
- Experience working in an alternative setting (camp)
- Mental Health First Aid training
- Valid MB driver’s license
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $26.54-$29.88 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
