Data Specialist – Job Summary and Responsibilities
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Data Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing large datasets, ensuring data integrity, and providing insights that drive decision-making. You will also play a key role in executing data migration tasks and supporting backend data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, experience in data migration, and a passion for leveraging data to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and analyze data from various sources to support business needs.
- Execute developer-provided data migration scripts to load, export, transform, and import data from legacy MySQL databases to modern PostgreSQL databases.
- Collaborate closely with the development team to define the data migration approach, automate scripts, and verify data consistency between systems.
- Develop and maintain databases using tools such as Hadoop and Apache Hive.
- Utilize programming languages like Python, Java, Shell Scripting (Bash), and VBA to automate data processing and validation tasks.
- Create detailed reports and visualizations to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Demonstrate proficiency in SQL to automate updates and validate financial data integrity across systems.
- Own data quality responsibilities, including monitoring data accuracy, applying patches in production, and managing backup/restore procedures.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in data analytics, database management, and predictive analysis.
- Work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet analytical and operational objectives.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in server management and database technologies, particularly Hadoop and Apache Hive.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, VBA, and Bash Shell.
- Experience in data analytics and interpreting complex datasets.
- Familiarity with predictive analytics techniques is a plus.
- Experience or knowledge of AI tools, Next.js, and Strapi is considered an asset.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to present data findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
