About This Position About the Project
The SSHRC-funded HubMeta Lab project is undertaking the largest-ever meta-analysis of SME growth studies (over 2,500 full-text articles coded to date). We have uncovered extraordinary variability in how key constructs—such as firm size—are operationalized, with 65+ distinct measures documented. To advance cumulative knowledge in entrepreneurship, we are building an AI-assisted measurement taxonomy within our HubMeta platform.
About The Role The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead the data cleaning, measurement taxonomy development, and AI-integration phases of the project. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Hadi Fariborzi), you will design, implement, and validate a standardized library of constructs and measures; work closely with our PhD RAs and undergraduates; and ensure seamless deployment in the HubMeta system.
This is a full-time limited term position working 35 hours per week and ending July 24, 2026.
Responsibilities Measurement Taxonomy
- Audit and harmonize existing variable codings across 2,500+ articles
- Develop hierarchical taxonomy of constructs (e.g., firm size, growth metrics)
- Define metadata standards and coding protocols
Platform Integration
- Collaborate with HubMeta developers to embed taxonomy in AI-assisted workflows
- Prototype and test automated classification scripts (Python/R)
- Document data pipelines and QA/QC procedures
Supervision & Training
- Mentor PhD-level and undergraduate RAs on taxonomy coding and platform use
- Lead weekly meetings with project team to review progress and resolve ambiguities
- Prepare training materials, codebooks, and user guides
Research & Dissemination
- Co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts on taxonomy development and methodological advances
- Present findings at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (travel allowance: $6,000 CAD)
- Contribute to grant reports and progress updates for SSHRC
Qualifications
- PhD (awarded within the last 5 years) in Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Organizational Studies, Information Science, or related field
- Demonstrated expertise in meta-analysis, systematic reviews, or quantitative synthesis methods
- Hands-on experience with coding large datasets, developing taxonomies/ontologies, and implementing AI/ML classification pipelines
- Proficiency in Python and/or R; familiarity with database management (SQL, NoSQL) strongly preferred
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to data integrity
- Strong written and oral communication; evidence of peer-reviewed publications
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, remote-capable research environment
Salary: Up to $49,000.00 per annum depending on experience
Closing Date: July 28, 2025
