Responsibilities:
- Facilitates and promotes a safe return-to-work for employees through gathering and reviewing medical information and case investigation including documentation of case management plans and rationale
- Communicates with key stakeholders, employees, and health care providers to adjudicate and manage return-to-work planning
- Facilitates return-to-work meetings and ensures all parties are in agreement with job modifications, graduated RTW schedule, etc.
- Monitors return-to-work plans and provides regular updates to all stakeholders
- Collaborates with internal and external experts – physicians, ergonomists, safety specialists, external providers, WSIB, insurance companies
- Manages the transition to LTD and provides medical and summary case management to the LTD insurer to ensure a seamless transition
- Provides support to the Attendance Support Program, ensuring appropriate improvements are acknowledged and continued absenteeism is addressed
- Utilizes expert knowledge of WSIB, OHRA, LTD, AODA policies and practices to implement, maintain, and sustain disability management and return-to-work programs, policies and procedures; technology and tools
- Liaises with the Health and Safety Specialist in regards to WSIB claims for work related illness or injury
- Enhances and champions disability management and return-to-work strategies and related programs and continually fosters a strong culture of employee health, safety and wellness
- Advises/assists with payroll coding
- Works closely with other members of the Employee Health Services and Human Resources teams to ensure effective adjudication of benefit entitlement, adequate support for employees absent due to occupational or non-occupational injury or illness, and a timely, safe and appropriate return to work
- Performs other duties as assigned, which are related to the major responsibilities of the job
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree, diploma in related field or certificate in a Disability Management related field with an equivalent combination of work experience
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Disability Management and Return to Work, managing WSIB, STD, and LTD claims
- Certified Disability Management Professional or Certified Return to Work Coordinator designation preferred
- Expertise in relevant legislation, e.g. WSIA, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code
- Demonstrated problem-solving, time management and prioritization, mediation, and conflict resolution skills
- The ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts
- Strong computer skills in MS Office is required, experience working with the Parklane system is preferred
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service focus
- Professional attitude, results-oriented, open to a changing environment
