Job Title: Operations Manager
Location: G3 Terminal Vancouver
The Operations Manager is responsible for the efficient execution of Terminal operations while adhering to environment health and safety controls. This role manages the daily work flow of other employees and coordinates staff scheduling, ensuring G3TV production and costing goals are met.
Scopes of responsibilities include input into operational budget and staffing requirements. Work scheduling may be shift based to reflect the 24/7 operational environment of a marine terminal. The Operations Manager may be the most senior staff member on site outside of regular office hours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs terminal operations including receiving, cleaning, storing, special processing and shipping of grain and by-products and monitors performance to optimize results and sustain continuous improvement. Reports daily on key operational indicators, terminal/system performance, issues and opportunities and explains variances from planned results.
- Responsible for managing, leading, mentoring and facilitating a culture which embraces safety as a core value
- Responsible for all industrial relations activities with employees to promote constructive working relations, positive morale and teamwork.
- Identifies, schedule and delivers employee training on an individual and position needs basis. Mentors, coaches and leads department heads and all employees.
- Monitors grain inventories and implements approved strategies to improve grades, protect quality, maximize shipping opportunities and ensure efficient space utilization at the facility.
- Responsible for maintaining company housekeeping standards and conducting regular plant, safety and other assigned inspections.
- Recommends, develops and implements terminal safety and loss control procedures to ensure compliance with legislated standards, company policy and best practices. Actively participates in the Joint Health and Safety Committee. In conjunction with the Joint Health and Safety Committee conducts incident investigations and evaluating and implementing remedial action.
- Participates in developing the terminal capital and operating budgets.
- Assists in the development of weekly staffing levels and annual vacation schedules to optimize operational efficiency and safety. Responsible for verifying and authorizing employee time and attendance, payroll administration, performance and regularly updating employee files.
- Ensures facility ISO and HACCP standards, policies and SOP’s are followed and understood by all staff.
- Complies with requirements of company’s Food Safety Quality Management System (FSQMS)
- Performs other related duties as required.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Post-Secondary diploma in a relevant field or high school diploma and equivalent working experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Agriculture industry
- Proven ability to lead by example. Excellent judgment, ability, analytical, planning and organizing skills as well as strong interpersonal and computer skills.
- Demonstrated initiative. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
