Clinical Leader Operations, Emergency Department
About the role
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, the Clinical Leader of Operations supports the efficient and effective operation of the Emergency Department by assisting with the planning, organization, and directing of clinical care consistent with the philosophy, objectives and vision of IWK Health. The Clinical Leader role models professional nursing practice, fosters the development of an environment in which the desired outcome of all activities is the enhancement of patient care while demonstrating strong leadership, organization and communication skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaboration with all appropriate care team members.
- Identify and facilitate of quality initiatives to improve care.
- Act as a liaison for ED with other care teams and departments within IWK Health and with external community partners
- Support the preceptorship of new staff.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Leader of Development, supporting learning and development opportunities for staff.
- Act as a clinical resource, collaborating in the coordination of patient care assignments and workload for staff.
- Participate in recruitment and selection of team members when required.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered).
- Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
- Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
- Minimum of three (3) years clinical expertise in pediatric emergency nursing required.
- Charge nurse experience in a emergency department required.
- Current certification in PALS, TNCC, CTAS, NVCI.
- Current certification in ENPC an asset.
- Emergency nursing certification or enrollment in certification process an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team required.
- Demonstrated visionary regarding trends in pediatric and emergency care.
- Demonstrated expert critical thinking, problem solving and decision making abilities required.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills required.
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients/ families, colleagues and community partners required.
- Demonstrated expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills required.
- Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning and professional development required.
