Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) has been in operation since 1981 and is one of the largest not-for-profit child care organizations serving East-Central Ontario. Compass Early Learning and Care – SJF is a new program set to open in January 2026. This location will offer an infant, a toddler, and a preschool room for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. What makes SJF unique is its connection to St. Joseph at Fleming’s long-term care home, creating a unique opportunity for intergenerational engagement. This innovative setting will foster meaningful relationships between children and older adults, enriching the lives of both through shared experiences and community-building activities.

About the role:

At Compass ELC, you will work as a Nutrition Specialist alongside some of the most passionate, caring and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time planning, prepping, and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks, following the Canada Food Guide, the Ministry of Education, and Compass Early Learning and Care policies and guidelines. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness.

Hours will be based on program needs and funding. You will work 35 to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hours may vary between 6:30 am and 6 pm.

Some accountabilities associated with the role include:

  • Planning, prepping, and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks.

  • Collaborating with a dedicated and passionate team of nutrition specialists.

  • Preparing menus and food with consideration to children’s food allergies and sensitivities

  • Drafting and preparing seasonal menus in consideration of the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and Compass ELC policies and guidelines.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with families and including them in the learning process.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, and community partners.

  • Working as part of a team with Co-workers, Families, Community Partners, and Children.

  • Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all children’s diverse needs and backgrounds, and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.

  • Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, dishes, furniture, and materials.

  • Cooking and baking nutritious snacks for our School Age Teams

  • Coordinating and creating a schedule with the nutrition team.

  • Being available to travel to all CELC programs.

Skills and Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years’ experience working/volunteering with children and youth. (Preferred)

  • 1 - 3 years of experience preparing and cooking food for large groups of people (Required)

  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards. (Preferred)

  • Valid certifications include a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records. (Required)

  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate (Required) Post Secondary Schooling in food, nutrition, or culinary. (Preferred)
