About the role
Overall Function:
An Electromechanical Engineering Technician role typically involves installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electromechanical equipment and systems. They work with a combination of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, often in automated or robotic settings. EM Techs may also support the design and production of mechanical components and systems. Focuses on the relevant standards for continuous quality improvement through a formal commitment to excellence, cost efficiency and reliability.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assemble, dismantle, and repair complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, robotic, and pneumatic equipment
- Schedule and perform all regular and preventative maintenance and testing, including inspections, repairs, and component replacements
- Diagnose and rectify software programming related issues with robotic control systems
- Set up and operate drill presses, grinders, welders, mills, lathes, and other metal working tools and equipment
- Assist in the design of moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures
- Replace or repair defective components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with safety regulations, safety procedures, and industry standards
- Work with other teams, such as production and operations, to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance
- Maintain accurate records of service and maintenance operations
- Recommend and implement improvements to processes and products
Qualifications & Experience
- A post secondary diploma in a relevant field like Mechanical, Industrial Automation, or Electrical Engineering Technology; C.E.T preferred.
- 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment: troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and programming of electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience in continuous improvement and/or cost reduction projects utilizing LEAN manufacturing and VA/VE principles
- Read and interpret manuals, mechanical and electrical schematics
- Solid understanding of software applications, including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and PLC programming
- Understanding of resistance welding process and machinery
- Strong ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with supervisors and other staff, regarding maintenance activities and issues
