About the role

Purpose:

To assist Cancer Genetics staff in preparing for genetic counselling appointments.

Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Comfort with computer software

  • Understanding of general pedigree structure

  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Able to speak with patients on the phone

  • Quick to learn new skills

  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative

Duties:

  • Read and understand family history questionnaires that have been completed by patients.
  • Assist in referral triage and data entry.
  • Patient phone calls to obtain email addresses, pedigree updates, personal information and/or booking appointments.
  • Enter family histories into Progeny, our patient database.
  • Accurately construct pedigrees according to proper format, including taking phone pedigrees.
  • Assisting with Release of Information requests.
  • Performing literature reviews and presenting at team journal clubs.
  • Assisting with collection of test requisitions and tracking genetic testing samples and writing template letters as needed.
  • Filing, faxing, photocopying and other office duties.
  • Occasionally assist with other projects, if necessary.
