We are currently looking for the following positions at our Maple location (1390 Major Mackenzie Drive West, L6A 4H6):
Dairy & Frozen Assistant Department Manager (Full-Time - Salaried)
Job Responsibilities:
Department Operations & Inventory Management
- Perform daily date checks to manage product freshness and reduce shrink with Dairy & Frozen Department Manager
- Ensure proper receiving and verification of all incoming Dairy & Frozen Department products with Department Manager
- Assist Department Manager in conducting scheduled and Ad-hoc inventory counts to maintain accurate stock levels
- Assist in developing employee schedules based on business needs and daily department activities
- Oversee product stocking, replenishment, and rotation to optimize the flow of on-hand inventory
- Communicate with Department Manger and buying team regarding low stock, out-of-stock items and product feedback
- Assist in maintaining department cleanliness and uphold store presentation standards
- Look at organizing and managing stock levels across overheads, shelves, backroom storage, freezers, and coolers
- Organize and process scan-outs for damaged or expired products
- Communicate and give input to Department Manager and buyers on exit strategies for slow-moving, expiring, or discontinued products
Sales & Customer Service
- Continually build a strong product knowledge basis to assist customers
- Answer customer inquiries and personally guide customers to products or delegate staff to do so, ensuring prompt service
- Collaborate with Dairy & Frozen Manager & buyers to source products based on customer requests
- Strive to exceed customer expectations by providing exceptional service to ensure customer satisfaction
- Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally
Leadership
- Train and mentor associates on company policies, procedures, and health & safety standards
- Foster team engagement with support from Department Manager through delegation and collaboration, maximizing each employee’s strengths
- Effectively prioritize tasks to ensure smooth department operations
- Assist in educating associates on product knowledge and industry best practices
- Build strong interpersonal skills to create a positive and productive work environment
- Hold associates accountable with support from Dairy & Frozen Manager by providing clear direction, discipline when necessary, and ongoing guidance
- Ensure a safe working environment for all employees
- Lead by example with professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic
- Assist in employee development with support from Dairy & Frozen Manager within the department, including promotions, performance reviews, and career growth opportunities in collaboration with Human Resources and Store Management
Merchandising
- Assist in the execution of re-lines to maintain an organized and updated product layout
- Collaborate with teams to implement and carry out merchandising plans effectively
- Assist and ensure proper product placement, visually appealing displays, and easy accessibility of product offerings for customers
- Verify and maintain proper and accurate product signage and pricing are displayed
- Prepare for seasonal products to ensure store readiness
- Perform proper product rotations (following the FIFO rule), rotate displays and apply price reductions as needed in coordination with the buyers
- Maintain strong front-end merchandising to enhance product visibility and sales with support from Department Manager
Other
- Other duties as assigned by management
Experience:
- Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory experience in a grocery retail environment
- Good understanding of grocery operations and product knowledge, particularly in the grocery, dairy and frozen product categories
- Experience in working an independent grocery retailer is preferred
- Track record of working effectively in a multi-cultural environment, fostering inclusivity and teamwork
- Experience with operating equipment would be an asset (power jack/forklift/stacker)
- Must be able to lift 23kg (50lbs ) and walk/stand for long periods
