About the role

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, the Maintenance Aide will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance-related tasks, including repairs and upkeep of the home. The Maintenance Aide is required to perform his/her duties in a positive and professional manner that is consistent with Humber Meadows.

The Maintenance Aide will be responsible and accountable for performing a variety of maintenance tasks, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, heating and building equipment. The Maintenance Aide will have the opportunity to advance their career and become a part of the Humber Meadows team that aspires to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the residents.

The part- time member of the team is expected to work Weekdays from 5 pm to 9 pm, and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) from 8 am to 4 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Responsible for performing basic maintenance, servicing and operational tasks to ensure that the home is in proper condition, including but not limited to, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and grounds, in accordance with applicable policies and procedures;
  • Ensures that issues requiring specialized work such as plumbing is referred to outside contractors and monitoring the work performed;
  • Responsible for repairing malfunctioning equipment, such as beds, chairs, toilets, lights, etc.;
  • Provides assistance to mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and painters as required;
  • Conducts regular maintenance inspections to ensure all buildings and equipment are functioning appropriately;
  • Participates in regular meetings that involve topics such as, infection control, quality assurance and safety as required;
  • Directs fire prevention procedures and staff trainings and proper use of firefighting equipment;
  • Maintains records and reports in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and legislative requirements;
  • Responsible for ordering and purchasing tools, equipment and supplies, in accordance with purchasing policies;
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in carrying out duties to ensure the needs of the residents are being met;
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area and ensures proper care of tools, equipment and supplies;
  • Contribute to a culture of relationship-based care by improving safety, quality, resident and staff satisfaction within HMLTCH;
  • Incorporate numerous essential components and, using recognised approaches and resources, develops and nurtures leadership, staff, families, and care partners to be person-centered and relationship-focused.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • To provide exceptional service at all times to employees, residents, families, stakeholders and the general public;
  • Ensures continued promotion and adherence to the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity;
  • Ensures positive professional relationships are built and maintained with all stakeholders, residents and team members who enter HMLTC;
  • Constant positive interactions during work hours, maintaining professionalism and a calm, helpful attitude;

About Humber Meadows Long Term Care Home

Humber Meadows Long-Term Care Home is a not-for-profit, charitable incorporated home affiliated with the Humber River Hospital Corporation.

In partnership with the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Humber Meadows is a 320-bed long-term care home located at 2109 Finch Avenue West, in the City of Toronto (Finch Avenue and Highway 400).

Humber Meadows Long-Term Care Home aspires to create a feeling of home for every resident while ensuring high-quality care. Residents will have access to daily nursing care as well as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, medication management and dialysis services, as needed. Three nutritious meals will be available daily, along with an afternoon and evening snack, and morning, afternoon and evening beverages.

Humber Meadows will offer a variety of recreational, social and spiritual activities, making use of the home’s beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Regular outings will ensure ongoing engagement with the local community.

Humber Meadows will also pursue designation as a Butterfly Model home. The Butterfly Model focuses on delivering emotion-focused care that connects with people in a dignified, human way. It addresses the holistic needs of the individuals and supports quality of life for each person living with dementia across the whole of their lived experience. Many of the program and construction design elements of the home already match the model.
